 Hello

 Everybody,

 My  name  is  Niranjan,
I  am  into  marketing  Computer  Hardware  and  Software  for  the  last  9  yrs.
I  am  from  Mangalore.  I  am  29  yrs  old  and  in  Bangalore  since  1986.
Earlier  I  was  in  Bombay  where  it  all  began  by  keeping  some  fishes  in  a  horlicks  bottle  caught  from  a  nearby  water  body.

Later  migrated  to  Bangalore  and  bought  my  fishes  from  the  Shivajinagar  market.  Mostly  golds  and  angels  and  a  turtle.  After  a  few  days  only  the  turtle  survived  after  making  excellent  meal  of  the  fishes.

Gifted  the  turtle  and  bought  my  first  batch  of  neon  tetras.  Lasted  for  about  2  yrs.
Currently  trying  to  break  that  record  as  I  have  a  book  at  home  saying  that  they  last  for  a  decade.

Well  after  the  neons,    bought  my  first  pair  of  Oscars.  One  night  one  guy  killed  the  other  and  stayed  with  me  for  the  next  8  years  blowing  any  chances  of  keeping  other  fishes.

Passed  away  last  year  after  sobering  down  during  his  last  months    and  sharing  his  tank  with  guppies,  meant  to  cheer  him  up.

Instead  of  eating  the  guppies  he  wasn't  even  touching  their  fry.
Gave  him  a  royal  funeral.  Gifted  the  tank  to  a  friend.

Bumped  into  IAH  and  ASK  and  a  very  nice  LFS  owner  called  Kiran  in  JAYANAGAR.  Ordered  a  tank  from  him  and  set  it  up  since  the  last  4  months  .

The  Discus  mania  is  pretty  recent.  After  reading  a  lot  of  articles  from  the  web,  ventured  into  keeping  some.  Found  that  they  are  surprisingly  easy  going  guys.  They  are  already  eating  out  of  my  hands  just  like  my  old  Oscar.  Hope  I  will  be  able  to  get  them  to  their  full  size.

Thank  you  guys  ,  for  doing  a  great  job  with  this  site.

 Hello

 Sunder,

I  had  about  10  ottos  they  all  died  eventually.  Mostly  after  I    shifted  them  to  the  big  tank.  I  have  only  2  now.
My  experience  is  that  these  algae  eaters  are  useless.
U  put  them  there  for  self  assurance.
When  algae  breaks  out,  particularly  brush  algae  my  algae  eaters  want  me  to  eat  it.
Regular  water  change  and  preventive  action  is  best.

 bye

 Niranjan

Just  something  I  like  to  add  Sunder,

The  Golden  Algae  eater  .....is  a  nice  chap.  He  wakes  up  just  at  daybreak  and  starts  his  work.  Mostly  I  see  him  scraping  every  leaf  in  the  tank,  every  rock  and  also  the  substrate.  He  is  very  possessive  about  the  java  moss.    He  works  round  the  clock.
And  promptly  at  10:00  he  is  under  the  drift  wood.  It  is  very  dark  there.
U  can  adjust  your  watch  acording  to  his  habits.  He  is  harmless  to  fishes  and  never  uprooted  and  plant.

I  know  he  will  grow  big.  Will  gift  him  off  to  a  pond  owner.

 Thanks

 Niranjan

 Hi  Everybody

I  am  Sujoy  Banerjee  and  you  would  know  me  by  my  nick  name  joyban.

I  am  originally  from  calcutta  and  had  this  hobby  from  my  childhood.  I  am  working  in  New  Delhi  from  last  15  years.  Information  Technology  is  what  I  do  for  living,  aquatics  is  my  hobby.

I  have  a  3ft  tank  which  only  have  Lake  Malavi  Cichlids  and  a  pond  which  have  cichlids  and  raqinbow  fish.

I  initially  wanted  to  breed  cichlids  in  the  ponds  ,  spcially  the  peacocks.  So  I  now  plan  to  have  an  othet  bathtub  pond  separate  for  Rainbow  fish  and  separate  for  the  Cichlids.

 http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=8&sid=b19f52150d8aaca6b602dfb1552d9c08

I  would  actively  contribute  to  this  forum  and  share  my  experience  with  you  all.

I  will  take  this  opportunity  to  request  the  IAH  forum  to  start  breeding  programmes  for  the  Ornamental  Fishes  in  the  Red  List,  so  that  we  can  keep  the  fishes  from  becoming  extinct.

All  Indian  Cichlids  specially  the  Etroplus  canarensis,  and  the  barbs  like  puntius  denisonii  should  be  conserved  and  as  IAH  members  we  should  take  professional  help  from  Ichthyologist  ,  (  if  there  are  any  body  in  the  forum)  to  breed  them  in  captivity.  As  these  fishes  are  mostly  from  South  &  Eastern  India  ,  I  think  members  from  that  part  of  the  country  will  be  successful  in  breeding  them.

Also  whenever  the  IAH  teams  go  for  trips  to  different  parts  of  in  in  search  of  ornamental  fishes  we  should  document  the  following  essentials  to  recreate  the  biotype  of  these  fishes  to  help  them  to  breed  locally  in  captivity.

essentials  are  with  pics  and  data:-
 1.  Collection  Locations
 2.  River  /  Water  source
 3.  Water  Condition  in  terms  of  pH,  KH,  DH,  NO2/NO3  /  O2/  CO2  levels
 4.  Aquatic  Plants
 5.  Soil  Type
 6.  Ecology  -  Tropical  Forest  /  simillar  details
 7.  Sun  Light
 8.  Depth
 9.  Community  Fish  etc
 10.  Eating  Habits  in  the  wild

You  could  add  other  details  also.

 for  example  http://home.vicnet.net.au/~fofwpc/fish_survey.html

Best  Of  Luck  To  Everybody  and  Best  Wishes

I  have  had  fishes  and  dogs  since  i  was  eight  years  old.  Papa  gifted  a  1x  1  tank  with  some  fighters.  Have  had  goramis,  goldfish,  tetras,  mollies,  guppies,  platy's,  suckers  etc.  By  the  time  i  was  in  college  i  had  six  tanks.  Very  implusive  buyer  and  would  buy  any  fish  that  caught  my  attention  at  the  local  LFS.  Got  into  breeding  tangerines,  goldfish,  koi  at  that  time.  Tanks  increased  to  15.

My  love  for  the  fishes  is  equally  shared  by  all  the  family  members.  Especially  papa.

 Presently  only  into  discus.

Am  now  planning  to  setup  a  marine  tank  and  must  say  that  Simba,  Adi  &  apurva  (hav  i  missed  someone?)  have  been  very  helpful.

Am  happy  to  be  here  on  IAH  and  look  forward  to  a  long  innings.  KEEP  UP  THE  GOOD  WORK  GUYS  &  GALS!!

 Regards,
 Rama
