Back  in  my  school  days,  any  male  who  read  M&B  was  given  a  really  tough  time  by  the  rest  of  the  folks.
Many  used  to  read  on  the  sly  -  actually  "read"  is  a  very  loose  term  here.  More  like  flip  through  the  book  to  find  the  interesting  parts  Wink

Now  girls  read  them  and  most  girsl  had  brothers  so  supply  was  never  a  problem.

Even  though  I  say  so  myself,  I'm  quite  an  expert  at  finding  the  relevant  parts  in  a  single  flick  of  the  pages  Very Happy

 Regards,
 Venkat

Hi,

Please  feel  free  to  inform  me  if  I  am  wrong,  BUT...

Instead  of  Wodehouse  thread  shouldn't  we  have  a  books  we  grew  up  with  thread?

 Example....
 Phantom
 Tarzan
 Amar  Chitra  katha
 Tinkle
 Famous  Five
 Secret  Seven
 Hardy  boys
 Nancy  drew
 Mills  &  Boons
 Asterix&Obelix
 Tintin
 JT  Edson

 Federick  Forsyth
 Wilbur  Smith
 Charles  Berlitz's
 Wodehouse
 Carl  Sagan
 Ann  Ryand
 Pramod  Batra
 etc,etc.....

These  were  the  books  in  their  exact  order  with  which  I  grew  up  with.

Hope  I  am  not  Hijacking  the  thread,  But  felt  since  this  is  about  books  I  can  post.

I  am  sure  even  you  die  hard  fans  of  Wodehouse  have  grown  in  almost  similar  way.

 Regards,
 Nayak.

 Some  addition  from  my  part,

 Flash  Gordon
 Mandrek
 Spider  Man

Sorry  for  my  mistake.  That  was  one  of  my  favorites.

 Rahul,Banjo  &  Venkat,

You  are  right.  We  used  to  read  M&B  in  sly,  But  it  sure  was  a  precursor  to  more  advanced  knowledge.  I  cant  post  the  names  of  those  books  here.  Chuckle

 Hi  Chatto,

Yes,  I  missed  Indrajal  comics  &  marvel  too.  We  used  to  purchase  Indrajal  at  Rs1.50.  Then  there  is  Dennis  the  menace,  Richie  rich  etc.

 Regards,
 Nayak.

 Yo  Guys,

If  you  like  P  G  Wodehouse,  you  will  love  Billy  Bunter.  Unfortunately,  Billy  Bunter  books  were  not  reprint  quickly  vanished  from  the  book  stores  &  libraries.

 http://www.chezcomics.com/comics-resources-information-pages/online-comic-strips/billy-bunter/billy-bunter-001.htm

If  you  find  Billy  Bunter  books  in  old  books  shop,  please  do  pick  it  up.  These  are  being  sold  for  a  king's  ransom  on  the  internet.

 Hey  Ravi,

I  loved  Billy  Bunter.  Been  through  quite  a  few  of  his  books.  Typical  brit  humour..

Another  enjoyable  series  are  the  "Just  William"  books.  Can  touch  a  chord  within  most  of  us.  Smile

How  many  of  you  remember  Giant  Robot  on  DD,  it  used  to  be  aired  on  Sunday  mornings.

Agree  with  nayak,  rahul,  banjo  and  others  those  were  the  days!!

Phantom  used  to  be  my  favorite  of  all  the  comics,  I  still  remember   i  had  created  a  racket  at  home  as  a  kid  because  the  21st  phantom  had  died,  was  happy  only  when  i  saw  the  next  edition  where  the  22nd  had  taken  over  his  dad's  place.  Chuckle

Had  forgotten  the  Old  Jungle  Saying  "The  Phantom  never  Dies"
