CO2  tablets  will  cause  rapid  changes  to  your  water  parameters--such  cases  fish  may  die.

The  fish  you  have-guppies,shrimp  are  basic  &  good  addition  for  your  planted  tank.
 You  can  add  tetras-like  neons  OR  cardinals  OR  rummynose;
   rainbowfish-like  threadfin,dwarf  neon,
get  a  shoal  of  just  one  species  and  it  would  look  stunning  that  way.  Thumb Up

;@  are  you  planning  to  remove  the  present  loach+guppy  once  you  get  new  fish?   if  yes  you  can  add  option-Serpae  tetra  to  the  list  too.  Smile
;@  if  you  dont  want  shrimp  you  can  add  some  dwarf  cichlids-rama-rosey  and  kribs.

and  much  more...let  us  know  your  favourite  colour  Chuckle  because  each  of  us  here  have  different  opinion.

No  amount  of  algae  cleaners  will  keep  your  planted  tank  free  of  algae.

Get  the  conditions  right  so  that  the  plants  can  thrive  and  you  will  not  need  a  single  algae  cleaner.
See  my  tank  picture  taken  a  few  days  ago.  This  tank  has  been  up  and  running  for  3  years  now,
there  is  not  a  single  fish  in  there  to  clean  algae  and  I  don't  even  get  any  algae  on  the  glass.

 It's  all  about  balance.
If  algae  could  be  eliminated  by  fish,  algae  would  be  extinct  by  now.

Vicky,  I  don't  know  how  to  help  you!

I  have  never  used  CO2  tablets  and  don't  know  if  that  damn  thing  works.

I  hate  these  CO2  gizmo  thingys.

I  only  believe  in  CO2  in  the  gaseous  form.

why  dont  you  try  supplementing  the  co2  tablets  with  a  couple  (atleast)  of  DIY  Sugar  &  Yeast,  which  should  help  you  to  increase  the  amount  of  co2  uin  water.  Also  thing  about  ways  that  you  will  be  diffusing  CO2  in  water,  many  prefer  to  use  a  small  powerhead.

Also,  I  think  you  should  reduce  the  lightning  period,  to  about  8-10  hr  from  your  current  13hrs  and  also  add  lots  of  fast  growing  plans  like  vals,  etc  which  you  want  can  be  removed  earlier  once  the  tank  is  more  stable.

One  more  question:  have  you  by  any  chance  started  dosing.

 Dosing  what  ?

today  i  again  replaced  50%  of  the  water,  the  water  color  was  soo  brownish  (  see  the  attaced  pic  )  tht  the  tank  was  lookin  soo  bad..  on  top  of  that,  i  did  a  water  change  last  week..  this  change  in  water  coloration  occurs  every  week..  should  i  be  changin  the  water  everyweek  ??  will  the  tank  become  brownish  within  a  week  ???  i  really  dont  understand  this..  even  the  Riccia's  dont  grow  Sad  feel  really  bad  abt  this  !!

btw  i  hav  reduced  the  lightin  time  to  8  hrs..

 i  put  4  co2  tablets  everyday..

and  one  more  doubt..  Mr.Madan  Subramanian  told  me  in  his  earlier  post  tht  "  ITS  ALL  ABOUT  BALANCE  "..  wht  did  he  mean  ???

PS  :  i  have  attached  the  photos  i  took  today..  u  can  see  the  color  of  de  water  i  drained..

LET  ME  BE  FRANK  ..  I  AM  NEW  TO  PLANTED  AQUARIUMS..  ONLY  U  PPL  MUST  HELP  ME  !!

Did  you  boil  the  driftwood  in  hot  water  before  placing  in  the  aquarium?  looks  like  it  is  leaching  tannins.

The  riccia  seems  to  be  covered  by  algae  and  IMO  you  need  lot  of  plants.  Much  more.
