could  someone  recommend  a  good  website  other  than  Amazon  to  buy  a  camera  from  USA?  i  am  interested  in  Panasonic  FZ  50  or  Canon  350  D.  if  someone  has  used  them  then  some  advise  would  be  helpful  too.

 watch  http://www.deals2buy.com/camera.htm  for  good  deals.

Your  best  bet  could  be  from  any  of  these  stores  www.circuitcity.com,  www.dell.com,  www.buy.com,  www.bestbuy.com.  Â Though,  I'm  not  sure  if  they  ship  to  India.

Canon  350D  is  better  option.  One  of  my  friend  have  this  camera.  As  per  him  both  Handing  &  Quality  is  good.

But  why  you  want  to  purchase  it  from  Amazon.  It  is  easily  available  in  India  &  at  much  lesser  price  than  Amazon.

 Hi  Kunal,

IMO,  it  is  not  a  good  idea  to  purchase  an  expensive  Camera  online  from  USA  with  shipping  to  India.  The  reasons  are  :
 1)  It  will  attract  huge  customs  duties/charges.
 2)  Warranty/Service  will  become  a  very  big  problem.  Though  the  company  people  say  that  some  models  carry  International  warranty,  the  local  offices  in  India  do  not  honor  the  warranty.  Even  if  they  accept,  repairs/replacements  will  take  months  of  time  to  get  it  fixed.
 3)  Customes  Officers  in  India  will  open  all  the  international  shipments  and  handle  very  roughly.  If  anything  gets  damaged  or  any  parts  miss  in  transit,  the  Shipper  will  not  accept.
Deals2buy.com  is  one  of  the  good  sites  where  the  current  deals  are  listed.  You  can  get  a  fair  idea  on  prices  and  deals  looking  at  this  website.  But,  do  not  trust  web  sites  buy.com,  newegg.com,  OfficeMax.com,  MeritLine.com  etc.  Most  of  the  things  sold  from  these  web  sites  are  either  refurbished  or  open  boxes.  Opened  boxes  means,  the  articles  which  are  bought  and  returned.  It  is  always  better  to  purchase  Notebooks,  Cameras  and  electronic  items  from  Company  stores  or  web  sites.  Also  sites/stores  like  bestbuy.com,  circuitcity.com  Sears.com  are  good.

It  is  a  better  idea  if  your  friends/relatives  are  bringing  the  camera  along  with  them  from  USA.

IMO,  it  is  always  better  to  purchase  the  Camera  in  India  if  you  are  purchasing  with  your  money.  You  can  have  a  look  at  the  Camera  and  check/feel  all  the  features  before  purchasing.  And  can  get  the  warranties  and  extended  warranties.

 All  the  best.

Like  everyone  above  has  posted,  please   don't  have  the  camera  shipped  to  India.
I  bought  my  camera  online  on  EBAY  and  had  it  shipped  to  someone  who  brought  it  over  for  me.

If  you  are  buying  on  EBAY,  most  merchants  will  not  accept  International  Paypal.  You  will  probably  need  to  send  a  MO  or  send  a  local  draft.

Buy  Canon  350D  in  India.  You  get  2  years  warranty  from  Canon  India.
Want  to  buy  online  in  India  visit  www.jjmehta.com
They  are  very  reliable,  the  prices  are  decent.

You  get  all  cameras  in  the  grey  market  in  India.  It  saves  you  shipping  costs,  and  warranty  anyway  does  not  exist  if  you  get  the  camera  from  USA.

If  you  do  want  to  buy  a  camera  from  USA  and  are  hell  bent  on  it  and  want  all  the  warranties  the  website  to  see  is  www.bhphotovideo.com

bhphotovideo  have  a  India  representative  www.bhindia.com

Select  your  model,  contact  bhindia.com  on  the  toll  free  number.
Place  your  order,  you  get  a  5%  discount  on  shipping,  bhindia  will  take  charge  of  the  equipment  and  you  will  get  it  at  home  in  7-8  days.  bhindia  will  handle  all  customs  formalities  for  you  sit  back  and  spend  money.

Remember  the  order  has  to  be  placed  through  bhindia  and  not  at  the  parent  website.

It  will  cost  you  more  as  shipping  is  high.

Custom  duty  on  all  photographic  equipment  is  a  flat  34.1%.  It  might  have  come  down.

Buy  the  Camera  in  India.  For  exotic  seldom  available  equipment  in  India  use  this  route.

 guys,
i  don't  intend  to  ship  to  India  but  thanks  for  the  concern  Thumb Up  .  going  to  ask  my  bro  to  get  it  for  me.  will  have  it  shipped  to  his  address.

 Natrey,
will  wait  for  your  response  regarding  the  two  cameras.

 Thillu,
 thanks  for  the  offer.

 Bhasker,
350D  is  retailing  about  24  grand  in  india.  in  US  i  might  be  able  to  get  it  for  18-19.  also  availability  of  350D  is  an  issue  in  India.  JJmehta.com  do  not  stock  it  any  more.

 Suneesh,
i  am  not  going  to  use  it  under  water.  needed  to  change  my  camera.  so  i  though  might  as  well  a  decent  one  with  a  few  more  options.

Sony  has  just  released  the  new  cybershot  H50.  anyone  has  any  opinions  on  this  camera.  no  reviews  on  the  net  as  of  now.
 Hayath,
any  comments  on  the  new  sony  cybershot  H50?

Kunal  getting  a  350D  will  not  end  your  DSLR  woes.

Read  the  other  thread  started  by  Tirtha.

The  lens  on  a  DSLR  is  more  important.  That  is  what  gives  you  the  maximum  flexibility.

As  for  the  rest  -  A  good  Photographer  is  one  who  shows  only  his  good  images.

If  you  cannot  recognise  a  bad  image  you'll  get  tagged  as  a  bad  photographer.

 Madan,
thanks  for  the  info.  you  are  right  about  the  camera  lens..  thats  why  i  am  thinking  of  dropping  the  350D  from  the  shopping  list.  superzoom  might  be  a  better  option
