 Have  6  in  a  3  18  21  tank  with  4  rummy  nose  and  4  rams
Any  suggestions  would  help..they  seem  to  hide  behind  the  sponge  filter  so  will  take  that  out  tomorrow..just  till  thursday  the  fish  were  eating  out  of  my  hand

I  was  out  to  mumbai  over  the  weekend  and  came  back  yesterday  evening  only  to  find  that  the  PMC  water  is  not  tasting  and  smelling  the  usual.
I  am  yet  to  find  out  if  there  was  some  maintenance  done  in  my  society  or  it  has  happened  all  over  pune.
It  is  highly  unlikely  that  the  water  quality  wiill  be  same  at  kothrud  and  kalyani  nagar.
 But  please  do  check.

 ...I  live  there  too.
...a  meeting  would  be  nice,  I  have  never  met  anyone  from  here  (Pune)  and  I  think  it  is  about  time.  except  Hamza  and  Adithya.

I  have  been  doing  WC  everyday  and  I  have  no  noticed  anything  'fishy'  with  the  water.  But  Even  though  I  am  about  a  KM  or  2  away  form  Hamza,  I  think  we  should  get  about  the  same  water.

I  am  sorry  I  cant  tell  if  it  tastes  different  as  I  only  drink  Bisleri  currently  even  at  home,  my  aqua-guard  broke  down.

I  don't  know  if  it  is  Chloro-Amines  as  Hamza  uses  chlorine  remover  which  I  don't.

I  am  not  ruling  out  the  water,  as  I  do  WC  in  a  planted  tank  and  if  there  are  any  toxins  they  are  easily  IMO  taken  up  by  the  plants.
But,  I  think  it  is  a  bacteria  in  the  tank  that  is  lurking  around  for  a  while  and  has  not  been  eliminated  completely  by  the  last  b-furan  treatment.

Though  I  am  no  expert  thats  my  hunch.

 Hope  them  a  speedy  recovery.
 Regards
 Nanu

 Hamza  ,

Sometimes  Discus  reacts  to  the  changes  in  the  surrounding  ,  like  change  in  overhead  lighting  ,  filters  ,  tank  cover  ,  or  any  sudden  movements  or  vibrations  etc  .

Under  such  condition  it  is  not  advisible  to  remove  the  discus  from  the  tank  ,  you  should  not  give  them  stress  .  During  shifting  ,  netting  ,  etc  Discuc  are  at  stress  and  it  makes  the  condition  worse  .  I  think  nothing  is  wrong  with  your  discus  -  stress  may  be  the  reason  ,  you  need  to  remove  the  stress  factor  and  everything  will  be  OK  .  Do  regular  WC  and  add  salt  after  WC  .

Pl  advice  what  is  the  condition  of  your  discus  now  ?  are  they  eating  ?

 Regards
 Shiva

...Hamza  I  can  assure  that  there  is  something  wrong  with  our  water  lately.
Yesterday,  and  the  day  before  my  larger  tank  (Where  I  do  WC  without  Aged  water)  has  some  whitish  haze  after  WC.  I  dont  know  what  that  is  but  it  is  not  the  same  as  what  we  were  getting  a  week  ago.  Maybe  I  didnt  notice  it  before  but  last  nite  on  a  larger  WC  I  could  clearly  see  it.

I  don't  know  what  this  is.  But  i  remember  Peter  warned  me  about  it,  maybe  The  PMC  is  adding  more  chlorine  or  something,  I  don't  know,  but  my  fish  looked  a  bit  off  after  WC,  and  took  longer  than  usual  to  settle  down  after  WC.
I  am  going  to  reduce  my  WC  from  non  aged  water  for  a  few  days...

Any  clue  on  what  this  might  be?

 I  hope  this  helps.

 Nanu

 hello  Hamza  ,  Ritesh

There  may  be  some  change  in  water  chemistry  .  I  think  the  water  may  be  containning  CHLORAMINE  .

Normally  the  municiplaity  water  is  treated  to  make  sure  its  safe  for  Human  consumption  .  The  municipality  ensures  that  the  water  is  filtered  and  CHEMICALS  are  added  to  the  water  to  prevent  anything  harmful  from  growing  in  the  water  while  it  is  in  the  pipe  leading  to  your  home  .

Normally  Chlorine  is  addded  to  kill  the  organisms  in  the  water  .  small  dose  of  chlorine  is  safe  to  drink  .  In  water  treatment  plant  sometimes  small  dose  get  easily  dissipated  from  water  hence  sometime  they  land  up  using  higher  dose  of  chlorine  to   ensure  that  small  chlorine  stays  in  water  when  its  reached  home  .  this  higher  dose  of  chlorine  is  toxic  to  our  aquarrium  fish  .

Since  chlorine  is  unstable  and  easily  gets  dissipated  ,sometimes  Chloramine  is  addded  at  water  system  .  chloramine  is  a  combination  of  Chlorine  &  ammonia  and  is  much  stable  then  Chlorine  ,  but  not  that  effective  as  Chlorine  hence  need  to  add  higgher  dose  of  chloramine  .

This  chloramine  is  safe  for  Human  ,  but  very  toxic  to  our  fishes  .  Why  ?

During  water  change  we  normally  add  Sodium  thiosulfate  (  hypo  )  ,  this  only  reacts  with  chlorine   (from  Chloramine  )  and  chlorine  is  eliminated   leaving     dreaded  Ammonia  .  This  ammonia  is  very  toxic  to  the  fish.

There  are  several  filters  &     chemical  products  available  in  the  market  that  removes  Chlorine  aswell  as  ammonia  from  water  .

You  can  minimise  the  damage  by  using  the  aged  water  and  do  minimum  water  change  .
I  think  minimising   the  feed  and  doing   small  WC  ,  may  able  to  control  your  problem  .
Less  feed  +   less  water  change  =  Less  change  in  water  chemistry  ,  hence  less  stress  to  your  fish  .

 Cheers
 Shiva  Nair
