 Oh  BTW!

We  did  not  go  to  Kushalnagar!

Once  we  dropped  Kushalnagar  over  a  leaisurely  breakfast  (  50  minutes  -  man  was  the  guy  slow)  like  I  said  this  was  a  relaxed  fish  collection  trip,  we  hung  around  the  outskirts  of  Mysore,  and  went  looking  into  the  irrigation  canals  from  the  KRS  dam  to  the  paddy  fields  around  Mysore.

This  is  one  hell  of  a  lot  of  water  bodies  that  you  can  drive  to  the  very  edge  of.  The  cloudy  weather  helped  us,  no  sun  beating  down  and  draining  you,  all  in  all  a  good  trip.  The  rain  kept  away  until  we  were  30  kms  from  Bangalore  in  the  evening  and  then  all  hell  broke  loose,  traffic  jams,  crawling  traffic,  waterlogged  roads,  anyway  we  got  home  at  9:45  PM  finally.

There's  a  lot  more  locations  to  do,  next  time.

Breakfast  was  a  at  Kamat's  on  Mysore  Road.  Lunch  was  Mutton  Biryani,  deep  fried  masala  partridge,  and  chicken  kabab  at  a  very  old  Mysore  eatery,  Moghul  Biryani,  probably  one  of  the  Moghul  envoys  to  Mysore  stayed  back  and  started  this  Biryani  joint  a  few  centuries  ago.  Followed  by  elaichi  chai.

Preeths  was  denied  the  famous  Maddur  Vada  by  the  waiter  at  Maddur  Tiffany's  restaurant  on  our  evening  chai  stop!

While  Navneeth,  Dinesh  and  Preeths,  kept  after  the  Ap.  panchax  in  the  evening,  Nayak,  Mayur  and  myself  did  a  quick  run  to  the  close  by  Ranganthittu  Bird  Scantuary.  We  hired  a  special  boat  and  I  went  birding  from  a  boat.  I  had  carried  my  Bigma  50-500  mm  lens  on  this  trip,  I  can  now  confirm  that  my  lens  is  an  excellent  copy,  it's  my  long  lens  technique  that's  woefully  inadequate.  I  am  happy  with  the  large  numbers  of  keepers  from  this  trip.  Very Happy

 Hi,

I  think  Preetham  and  Dinesh  has  more  photos.  I  have  only  this  photo  of  Channa  caught  by  Navneeth...

Look  at  the  size  of  the  Ap.Panchax  above  it.  Surprised   Really  beautiful.

 Madan  Sir,

You  will  have  to  post  the  pictures  of  the  fish  to  show  them  in  all  their  glory  Bow

 Regards,
 Nayak.

Neil  the  Ap.  panchax  males  are  a  good  5  cm.  Awesome  coloring.

I'll  post  pics  in  a  couple  of  days,  once  I  set  up  a  photography  tank.

Sadly  the  Channa  sp.  died  overnight.  It  got  stuck  under  a  small  rock  we  had  placed  to  give  it  some  security.  Navneeth  will  be  disappointed.  It  was  a  nice  specimen.

Well  the  pics  are  finally  here.

 Kamat's  -  We  had  a  hearty  b/fast  here.

After  us  the  cars  had  to  be  filled  up
 [img]

Barbs,  loaches,  Danios.....  were  netted  here

 Navneet  appears  to  drift  towards......

Notice  the  contrast  (  Incredible  India  and  the  women  washing)  A  good  caption  for  this  pic  is  welcome.

Preetam  holding  the  Ap.Panchax  and  Ap.Lineatus

Navneet  and  Preetam.Ater  this  Navneet  just  stayed  behind  for  a  last  try  and  netted  the  Channa.

 Nayak,Preetam,Madan  and  Mayur

It  took  as  many  shots, different  views  and  angles  to  get  a  fairly  clear  pic  of  the  prize  catch-Channa

I  wish  to  thank  everybody  for   the  good  and  educative  time  I  had  and  also  to  the  clouds  for  not  ruining  the  day,  but  of  course  that  (  rain)  was  responsible  for  the  miserable  traffic  pile  up  just  outside  Bangalore  is  a  different  story.

 Dinesh.
