 Hi,

They  belonged  to  the  first  /  second  batch  that  I  bought  from  Adip  in  2003.  They  have  never  been  fed  on  Hikari  pellets,  BHM,  Tetra  bits  &  frozen  prawns,  but  never  on  live  food.  Karthik  had  started  feeding  them  live  ghost  shrimps,  not  sure  what  else.  Adip  did  mention  they  have  not  grown  well  w.r.t  to  their  age,  well  I  guess  the  space  &  feeding  were  the  contributing  factors  -  this  Female  is  6"+  &  Male  7"+

Karthik  put  them  in  a  5'x2'x2'  &  the  fights  increased,  we  could  see  scales  standing  of  the  Female  Frontosa.  Two  weeks  later  Karthik  called  to  confirm  they  have  bred  &  he  has  managed  to  strip  the  female  of  11  fries.  They  must  have  been  breeding  in  my  Aquarium,  but  never  paid  attention  to  that  aspect  as  I  was  running  short  of  space.  Most  of  the  time  I  saw  one  chasing  away  the  other  during  feeding  time.

I  lost  two  6”  Frontosa  with  noticeable  bite  marks  on  the  face;  the  courtship  aggression  of  the  pair  could  have  been  the  cause.  The  space  though  with  lot  of  hiding  place  was  confined  (36x24x18)  .  Later  these  two  occasionally  shared  this  space  with  Tropehous  Ikola,  Clown  loach,  Melon  barbs  &  few  Oscars(I  know  it’s  a  weird  combination).  This  aquarium  had  become  a  dumping  area  for  unwanted  menace  in  the  planted  Aquarium  or  otherwise  Very Happy.  It  was  running  on  a  2217  &  with  bare  minimum  attention  -  feed  once  a  day  &  forth  nightly  WC.

This  is  after  ~2  months  I  bought  them  from  Adip,  they  looked  cute.

They  did  not  touch  the  Ferns  &  Anubias  until  about  a  year,  after  which  they  actually  ripped  apart  the  plants  to  pieces  day  by  day.

I  got  a  deal  with  Karthik  with  "if  they  breed..."  clause.  Chuckle  &  decide  to  part  with  them.  I'm  glad  they  have  got  a  big  home  &  in  good  hands.   Thumb Up

All  Frontosa  that  are  breeding  now  in  Bangalore,  have  passed  through  Karthick's  tanks  at  sometime  or  another.

Karthick  was  the  conditioning  expert/incharge  when  Frontosa  first  came  in  to  Bangalore.
