A  poor  specimen  at  that.  Perhaps  mixed  with  some  lalia

My  guess,  Colisa  Labiosa.  That  picture  is  blurred,  making  it  difficult  to  id.  Does  that  fish  resemble  this?

Colisa  labiosa  is  native  to  Myanmar.   No Way

What  I  meant  by  my  post  above  is  that  it  is  a  specimen  of  C.  fasciata  in  poor  shape,  and  it  possibly  has  some  C.  lalia  in  its  ancestry.

The  name  for  C.  fasciata  in  the  hobby  is  "giant  gourami",  which  is  also  shared  by  O.  gorami  Very Happy

We  could,  of  course,  call  it  a  striped  gourami,  going  by  the  specific  name.  Or,  the  Indian  giant  gourami.  But,  neither  name  will  be  encountered  in  the  literature,  so  it  does  not  help  anyone  who  looks  for  those  names.

 C.  labiosa  is  the  thick  lipped  gourami,  C.  lalia  is  the  dwarf  gourami.

Personally,  I  prefer  scientific  names  because  there  is  little  room  for  error  there.

 Hi  Rohan,
You  are  right  I  have  few  charts  given  to  me  Mr  sane  from  mumai  when  I  visited  him  last  and  he  also  game  me  few  editions  of  Sanjivani,  a  local  member  magzine.
Mr  Sane  was  a  very  knowledgeable  man.
I  have  not  seen  any  one  yet  who  was  so  much  involved  with  the  hobby  to  this  extent.
 regards

looks  like  a  Colisa  fasciata  to  me  more  than  a  Colisa  lalia..   Smile   because  i'v  had  the  striped  gourami  recently  n  it  looks  80%  similar  if  not  for  the  little  bit  of  colouration  on  the  mid  section  of  the  fish...
@  kaushik:  What  other  fish  do  u  get  in  that  waterbody  u  mentioned...  hehe   Very Happy
