 Cheering  FREINDS

At  last  I  got  my  home-license  to  make  my  tank.  So  I  have  decided  to  construct  it  on  this  GOOD  FRIDAY.

I  got  the  glass  edges  trimmed,  I  got  the  Dow  croning  Glue,  I  got  the  Gun  and  the  new  pane  too.  I  have  also  asked  my  kids  to  help  me.

 Now  ....  Iwant  to  know

 1.  on  the  bottom  there  are  a  few  scratches,  not  very  deep  but  hairline  onse,  probably  happened  due  to  substarte...  is  it  ok  to  use  the  same  glass?

 2.  I  saw  a  different  technique  at  an  LFS  for  sticking  glass,  3  sides  were  stuck  on  the  bottom,  but  the  front  pane  was  stuck  face-flat,  to  complete  the  cube...  is  this  technique  ok?  because  I  saw  the  tank  DIY,  which  says  stick  everything  on  the  bottom  (much  right  though),  then  why  are  LFS  sticking  the  final  glass  on  the  face-flat  and  not  on  the  bottom.?

 ^  Usually  a  mixed  blessing.

Many  styles  to  the  sticking  and  you  decide  that  before  having  the  glass  cut,  for  you  have  to  adjust  the  size  to  the  thickness.  Once  the  glass  has  been  cut  just  paste  according  to  how  it  is  sized.

I  normally  use  salvaged/scratched  glass  for  the  bottom  of  my  tanks,  saves  on  the  cost.

 Dear  Garothmaan,

It  would  be  advisable  to  keep  your  kids  away  from  chemicals  &  power  tools  while  building  your  tank.
Arrange  for  someone  else's  help  and  wear  safety  glasses  while  doing  your  gun-work.

Thanks  T2  or  reminding....  But  I  have  decided  to  now  put  the  whole  thing  on  the  ground  (floor)..  and  Iwas  about  to  ask  you,  if  its  ok  to  just  put  thermocol  on  the  floor  and  then  put  the  tank  on  it?

Or  I  astill  have  to  put  a  10mm  ply  and  then  put  thermocol  and  then  the  tank?

 Please  guide...

You  can  keep  the  tank  on  floor  on  a  1"  thermocol   But  before  that  check  the  slope  of  your  floor.

 err!

 Garothmaan  ji,
wouldn't  it  be  hard  to  you  view  the  tank?  especially  when  we  get  in  such  a  beautiful  setup.

How  about  making  a  simple  stand  out  of  wood  instead?  or  cement+brick  if  permanent.

IMHO  a  room  just  with  ground  level  seating  with  just  mattress{east  asian  style}  near  the  tank  might  be  a  nice  idea?  Smile   Thumb Up  ...along  with  that  one  gets  the  rare  luxory  to  even  sleep  beside  the  aquarium.
 Jus  me  few  cents!

 Enjoy,  keep  updating.
 Goodluck.

The  floor  doesnot  have  uneven  surface  or  slope,  its  typical  ceramic  tiling....  is  it  ok?

 Garothmaan,
Go  for  a  table/stand,  unless  you  are  adding  goldies  again.

In  the  latter  case  you  dont  need  a  glass  tank.

 @  Garothmaan

 Sorry  I  took  it  wrong.
If  you  have  a  sitting  arrangement  like  Saikumar  said.
 Go  ahead,  my  best  wishes.

BTW,  have  you  thought  about  what  you  are  going  to  keep  in  this  tank.
IMO  go  for  a  planted  one.  It  keeps  the  owner  engaged.  Smile

If  you  have  the  tank  on  the  floor  level,  how  will  you  siphon  out  the  water???     Surprised

If  the  floor  is  above  actual  ground  level,  you  will  then  have  to  keep  the  other  end  of  the  siphon  pipe  outside  the  window,  below  the  level  of  the  tank  to  get  the  water  out...  unless  you  have  a  motor  to  pump  your  water  out.
