Not  often  you  see  my  discus  in  a  tank  with  substrate, plants  &  black  background.  Dropped  this  pair  of  Melon  female  &  Pigeon  male  in  this  tank  for  a  day  for  some  clicking.  Their  tail  is  bit  burnt  by  WC.  Male  was  really  shy  to  come  out  but  female  was  bold  enough.
Hope  you  like  the  pictures  :)

Awesome  shots  though  i  disagree  when  you  say  this  is  their  unusual  envioment.
Its  the  glass  boxes  we  keep  them  in  thats  unsual.
I  have  been  guilty  of  doing  the  same  but  have  sworn  off  keeping  bare  bottom  tanks.Less  tanks  but  nice  tanks!
Lovely  tank  again.Would  suggest  you  keep  them  in  this  tank  for  a  while  and  keep  us  updated  about  the  progress.though  pigeons  are  the  worst  choice  for  a  planted  tank  with  a  black  backdrop.

Do  you  know  there  are  selectively  bred  pepperfree  Pigeons?  Even  after  24hrs,  I'm  yet  to  spot  single  black  spot  in  its  broad  body.  They  will  be  back  to  their  18"  cubical  home  soon.

PS:  Am  sure  Beta  knows  who  breed  pepperfree  Pigeons.  Very Happy

So  why  do  you  think  Pigeons  are  worst  choice  in  planted  tank  &  black  background?
Share  your  experience  with  pigeons  in  planted  tank,  if  you  have  kept  any.

Their  regular  tank  will  be  re-siliconed  this  weekend,  hence  this  transfer.

Sorry  yogesh  have  no  experience  of  keeping  pigeons  in  planted  tanks...just  discus   Very Happy
I  have  setup  a  couple  of  tanks  for  clients  and  whenever  i  have  put  in  a  pigeon  discus  or  any  other  strain  with  pigeon  genes  they  have  showed  a  little  peppering.Changing  the  backdrop  from  black  to  light  blue  does  help  but  kills  the  beauty  of  a  planted  tank. The  pigeon  discus  you  have  may  be  of  hi  quality  and  might  have  been  crossed  out  to  remove  peppering.
In  my  opinion  Turqs, browns, leopards  and  San  merahs  have  proven  to  be  best  choices  for  planted  tanks.

I  just  wanna  say  Pigeon  is  not  that  bad  strain  as  we  think,  though  under-rated  one.
This  one  is  not  gonna  get  peppering  on  it  with  black  background  or  whatsoever  reasons.
Comes  from  the  stock  of  very  respected  breeder  of  Indian  origin  (not  gonna  mention  his  name  until  Beta  identifies  Wink  ).
For  me,  discus  in  a  planted  is  big  no-no.  But  agree,  they  look  more  stunning  in  a  planted  environment.

Believe  me,  1  Discus  (  BD)  almost  dead,  lying  flat  on  the  water  surface,  I  removed  it  and  dropped  it  in  my  planted  bowl.  In  half  an  hour,  it  was  up  and  breathing.  Now  this  cant  be  a  miracle.  I  took  it  to  another  friend's  planted  Tank,  voila,  its  living...I  dont  know  if  the  angels  like  it  or  not,  in  that  tank,  there  are  only  4  angels,  tank  is  50"X15"X18".

Yogo,  these  are  fantastic  discus..  my  red  melon  discus  are  just  growing  well.  Only  that  I  have  very  few  left.  rest  4  pairs-  (1  each  )  are  with  my  friends  Chuckle  doing  realy  well  in  small  tanks.(3ftrs)
