I  fail  to  understand  why  people  make  all  the  fush  about  fish  cross  breeding  and  hybreedisation  like  fh  .the  same  persons  would  just  very  easyly  buy  a  dog  hilarious  dog  cross  breed  (as  most  of  the  dogs  in  our  homes  are  cross  made),other  pets  also  but  when  it  comes  to  fish  they  start  saying  oh  no  i  don't  like  man  made  fish.
Off  course  i  don't  support  the  colouring  of  fishes  or  things  like  that  but  cross  breeding  is  fine  to  me  as  long  as  the  fish  looks  beautiful  and  there  is  no  cruelty  done  on  the  fish.
 thank  you
would  like  to  get  views  of  all  the  True  Fish  lovers  of  IAH  Smile

i  stand  totally  against  hybrids  in  fish  esp  fish  like  the  flower  horn  for  the  simple  reason  it  wasnt  meant  to  be  that  way.  its  a  diff  story  if  the  fish  choose  to  interbreed  by  them  selves  in  the  wild  but  if  its  encouraged  in  an  aquarium  the  new  strain  will  need  to  classified.  thats  just   one  part.  the  biggest  hassel  with  a  hybrid  is  that  they  tend  to  be  very  unpredictable.  temperment  and  size  wise.  your  getting  into  something  u  may  or  may  not  be  able  to  handle.  what  u  gonna  do  if  u  cant?  let  it  go?  damage  caused  will  be  irrevokeable.

the  thing   that  u  tolld  is  nothing  wrong,  but  when  we  breed  dogs  of  a  particular  standard  ,  for  example  greatdane  to  a  greatdane  or  a  pug  to  a  pug,  we  are  respecting  a  breeder  who  put  his  all  life  efforts  to  develop  a  breed  from  a  2  foot  wolf  or  a  mongreal  ,  all  the  dog  breeds  in  this  world  were  made  from  3  female  wolfs  and  1  male,  so  think  what  was  it,  its  a  15,000  year  old  effort

today  we  do  registration   of  cross  breeds  ,  if  they  are  legitamate  or  purehearted  effort  of  a  single  breeder, but  if  u  wanna  make  money  like  our   market  sellers  who  are  not  breeders  with  passion  for  the  game  ,  u  willl  be  never  recognized  and  u  wiill  talk  like  this  for  ever!!!!!!

Sumit  how  would  u  like  it  someone  decided  to  splice  your  gene  and  mixed  it  with  an  ape's  gene?  would  u  like  it?

90%  of  the  GM  modified  fish  and  man  made  fish  are  infertile.  these  creatures  were  put  on  earth  for  specific  reason:  to  carry  on  the  strongest  genes.  most  of  them  with  exception  of  flowehorns  and  the  newest  line  of  Glofish  are  infertile.  how  exactly  are  we  helping  them  by  buying  them?  dogs  and  cats  have  been  interbreed  and  then  line  bred  to  enhance  the  blood  line.  diversity  in  the  gene  pool  have  made  the  dog  stonger  and  helped  established  more  stable  traits.

the  flowerhorn  it  self  is  a  fish  that  i  strongly  opose.  like  that  article  stated  flower  horns  are  being  sold  by  other  cichlid  names  and  these  fish  are  so  damn  aggressive  that  its  just  not  funny.  HOW  can  a  fish  bring  u  luck?  thats  the  most  absurd  thing  i  have  heard.

this  hobby  has  options  for  people  with  limited  money  as  well  and  isnt  restriucted  to  only  the  rich.  you  just  gotta  know  what  your  doin.  there  are  so  many  beautiful  fish  available  to  us....why  encourage  man  to  play  god?  we  werent  ment  to  play  god.  man  kind  needs  to  learn  its  limitations.  we  are  pushing  our  luck  just  a  lil  2  much  of  late.

another  info,,  a   strain  of  african  cheetahs,  which  gets  big  and  more  darker  spots  than  the  normal  cheetahs, which  exists  in  wild, has  thought  to  be  bred  by  humans  12000  yrs  ago,

interbreeding  of  the  same  species  and  genus  has  resulted  in  todays  50ltr  milk  cows, poultry, colorfull  birds, greater  yielding  crops, even  humans
themselves  are  thought  to  be  a  mixture  of  primitive  apes  not  evolved  from  a  single  monkey!!!!!!!!!!

 Dogs  crossbreed  themselves  too.

How  many  rottweilers  and  pit  bulls  do  you  see  in  the  wild?

But  with  fish  the  probability  of  these  cross  breeds  getting  into  the  wild  and  causing  a  havoc  is  high  and  is  infact  happening.

survival  of  the  fittest  ,  luck  also  plays  a  role,

i  think  technology  is  the  way  of  the  future,  we  have  seen  what  nature  can  do  but  we  have  not  seen  ,  what  us  humans  can  do?,  the  only  one  thing  we  have  done  through  our  high  intelligence  is  to  breed  like  pigs  do  and  overpopulate  our  small  rock  called  earth.

i  am  gonna  totally  disagree  with  u  on  this  one.  mankind  has  done  enough  damage  with  technology  as  it  is.  any  more  'advances'  and  we  stand  to  wipe  the  earth  out  as  we  know  it.  technology  can  save  the  enviorment  granted....but  as  of  today  we  havent  used  it  to  save  our  natural  resourses.

we  as  humans  need  to  find  a  balance  and  find  a  way  to  coexist  with  nature.  if  we  can  find  a  way  to  harness  technology  to  better  our  enviorment  i  am  all  for  it.

survival  of  the  fittest  ,  luck  also  plays  a  role,

i  think  technology  is  the  way  of  the  future,  we  have  seen  what  nature  can  do  but  we  have  not  seen  ,  what  us  humans  can  do?,  the  only  one  thing  we  have  done  through  our  high  intelligence  is  to  breed  like  pigs  do  and  overpopulate  our  small  rock  called  earth.

i  am  gonna  totally  disagree  with  u  on  this  one.  mankind  has  done  enough  damage  with  technology  as  it  is.  any  more  'advances'  and  we  stand  to  wipe  the  earth  out  as  we  know  it.  technology  can  save  the  enviorment  granted....but  as  of  today  we  havent  used  it  to  save  our  natural  resourses.

we  as  humans  need  to  find  a  balance  and  find  a  way  to  coexist  with  nature.  if  we  can  find  a  way  to  harness  technology  to  better  our  enviorment  i  am  all  for  it.

Zakk  you  just  put  it  down  what  I  also  wanted  to  say  in  the  best  possible  way.  We  have  already  screwed  up  nature  a  lot  and  seen  the  results.  I  support  the  view-point  that  technology  has  done  more  bad  than  it  has  done  good.  And  speaking  of  Flower-horns,  we  just  cant  overlook  the  devastating  effects  it  can  have  on  our  native  fishes  and  biotpes.

someone  i  know  who  lives  in  one  of  those  crazy  asian  countries  told  me  about  these  fish.  its  sad  actually.  would  u  believe  for  every  batch  of  'fish'  that  are  spawned  in  the  hundreds,  only  20  get  to  see  life  in  a  tank?  the  rest?  culled.  FH's  are  fertile.  yes.  they  will  breed.  yes.  will  they  sell  the  fry  from  a  flower  horn?  no.  they  are  all  culled.  why?  a  hybrid  can  only  spawn  another  hybid  hybrid.

i  still  stand  by  my  view  that  we  as  hobbyist  need  to  stop  encouraging  people  to  breed  these  fish  by  not  purchasing  them.  i  also  stand  by  my  view  that  if  god  intended  for  fish  like  Flower  Horns,  Parrots,  Glofish,  OB  Peacocks,  OB  Zebras  etc  etc  we  would  have  found  them  in  the  wild.  i  have  purchased  and  culled  hybrid  cichlids  on  occasion.  i'd  rather  it  be  me  who  does  the  culling  than  let  some  12  year  who  has  a  well  padded  pocket  buy  them  and  then  introduce  them  to  our  water  bodies.

Sid.  a  classic  example  of  man  playing  god  using  technology:  Glow  In  The  Dark  Convict  Cichlids  and  Angels.

let  me  also  clarify  this:  am  not  a  god  fearing  person.  i  believe  in  a  higher  guiding  power.  u  call  him  Ram,  Allah,  Christ  and  what  ever  other  names  we  may  have  for  them.  if  this  higher  power  didnt  intend  for  certain  things  to  natrually  occur  who  are  we  to  do  so?
