I  just  got  sand  from  my  uncle  who  has  just  returned  from  Goa  !  Very Happy
The  sand  is  brown  in  color  and  very  fine  as  usual.  What  precautions  should  i  take  before  adding  it  to  my  aquarium  tank  which  has  one  goldfish  ?  Please  suggest  me  if  this  will  be  safe.

If  you  have  a  spare  tank,  you  could  make  a  desert  terrarium  -  without  any  fauna..  Just  various  desert  species  of  flora  that  does  well  with  sand..

@sanket,  My  uncle  was  already  in  Goa  for  holidays,  so  i  requested  him  to  get  some  sand  for  me.  In  mumbai,  i  guess  sand  is  too  polluted  and  above  all...  i  don't  have  time  to  go  to  mumbai  beaches  (work  load  from  office)..  i  don't  even  remember  the  last  time  i  was  at  any  mumbai  beaches.

@GatorX,  Your  suggestion  for  flora  seems  awesome.  but  for  a  beginner  like  me,  i  am  still  reluctant  to  go  for  a  flora  with  sand  due  to  lack  of  knowlegde.  I  have  fallen  in  love  with  aquarium  hobby  just  2  months  back  !  I  don't  have  a  spare  tank  with  me  and  i  dont  plan  to  get  any  tank  or  more  fishes  till  i  am  confident  enough.  I  plan  to  raise  my  single  goldfish  at  the  moment  and  will  get  bigger  tank  (hope  fully  custom  made)  after  4  months.
I  hate  the  tank  my  LFS  sells,  they  are  unfinished  and  usually  small.  I  also  have  quit  smoking  to  save  for  better  setup  Thumbs Up

@ram_a_rosi,  your  answer  is  very  true  and  humorous  at  the  same  time  !   Chuckle  haha.

Yeah!  this  hobby  is  doing  great  things  from  me   Thumbs Up

Guys,  any  other  recommendation  to  use  the  fine  sand?

 Hi  Libero

Goldfishes  have  habit  of  picking  up  substrate  in  their  mouth. If  substrate  is  fine  or  has  sharp  edges,  which  sand  you  have  with  all  probability  will  have,  it  will  damage  mouth  of  your  goldfish  and  it  would  stop  feeding  leading  to  a  painful  situation  or  even  death  of  fish.

You  should  use  small  round  pebbles  for  your  fish  tank.  They  wont  harm  fishes  mouth  and  would  be  easier  to  clean  then  sand  as  gold  fishes  produce  a  lot  of  waste.

 Regards

@apcmge,  Thanks  a  lot  for  reasoning  me  with  outcome.  I  already  have  pebbles  (rocks).  I  will  stick  to  my  current  setup  only  and  will  give  away  the  sand  to  anyone  needy  if  i  don't  have  any  good  use  of  it.

 Thanks  for  advice  !

Did  my  homework.  Opted  for  sand  as  substrate,  it's  been  4  days  now  with  sand  !  and  guess  what,  NO  PROBLEMS.

My  tank  looks  Great  !  Surprisingly,  cleaning  tank  got  easier.  No  more  hidden  poops  at  bottom!  I  really  like  it,  and  recommend  it  too!!  Thumbs Up

Will  post  image  of  my  tank  tonight.

 @SuPro,
                  Thanks  bro   Smile
The  Tank  looks  really  more  beautiful  if  you  look  at  it  personally,  my  cam  quality  is  not  too  good.  and  the  pic  was  taken  at  night  time.  My  Goldfish  (name:  Asmodeus)  is  really  happy  and  enjoying  it   Clapping
