 Hi  Friends,

I  would  like  to  know  what  is  the  color  of  KNo3  aqueous  solution...
I  mixed  40gms  of  KNo3  in  500ml  RO  water  and  it  turned  dark  pink...almost  red
I  searched  a  few  online  resources  and  it  says  KNO3  aqueous  solution  is  colorless..
what  could  be  wrong..  have  i  got  some  other  chemical?  the  powder  was  pinkish  in  color  too...

Nope  none  of  these  would  turn  any  colour.  They  are  all  colourless.  Did  you  buy  your  KNO3  from  a  forum  member  ?  I  remember  one  guy  selling  ferts  and  his  were  all  colourful.  Wanted  to  ask  him  about  it  but  couldnt  post  in  the  WTS  section  and  didnt  get  around  to  PMing  him

It  was  the  agricultural  grade.  Hence  you  see  the  coloration.  I  dont  think  there  is  anything  to  worry  about.  Since  agricultural  grade  ferts  are  also  used  by  some  of  the  IAH  members..

Even  Lab  grade  KNO3  is  pink  sometimes.
The  crystals  will  themselves  be  pink.  Especially  if  the  Chemical  is  from  Merck.

No  harm  done  as  the  dye  is  harmless  to  fish  and  plants.

 Enjoy  !

+1  even  i  was  thinking  the  same.  Add  a  crystal  of  hypo  or  any  other  anti  chlorine  liquid.  If  the  colour  changes  to  brown,  then  it  pp.  Check  before  adding  them  in  your  tank.

Thank  you  all  for  the  replies...
@Madan,  @shelly  -  you  are  right,  I  must  be  having  agricultural  grade...its  been  confirmed  by  the  seller  as  well.

@  sandeepraghuvanshi,  @deepkag  -  thanks  for  your  inputs...  but  I  was  quite  sure  its  not  PP..  I  have  seen  the  the  PP  crystals  and  the  one  I  have  did  not  resemble  it...

agricultural  grade  from  vardhaman  fertilizer  is  always  a  pink  colour  and  this  gives  the  MACRO  mix  a  pinkish  tinge
the  sulphate  is  light  yellow  in  colour  and  the  phosphate  is  a  blue  colour  --  the  agricultural  grade
i  haevnt  faced  any  issue  with  these  so  far
if  i  need  to  start  using  lab  grade  would  like  to  have  3  good  reasons  to  change  to  lab  grade
