 @  Sergio,

Thanks.  Currently  I  do  not  have  any  algae  issues  in  my  tank.  During  the  initial  setup  of  the  tank,  I  had  serious  stag-horn  algae  issue.  It  was  due  to  the  rotting  Bacopa  stems  which  I  did  not  see  which  was  causing  the  stag-horn  algae.  Once  I  removed  Bacopa,  I  did  not  have  any  major  algae  issue.

I  did  have  some  green  spot  algae  in  Ludwigia  Glandulosa  since  it  was  a  very  slow  growing  plant.  And  I  could  see  the  green  spot  algae  in  the  glasses  to.  Once  I  reduced  the  lighting  period  from  9hrs  to  8  hrs,  the  green  spot  algae  too  went  off.

Now  no  algae  issues  at  all...   Very Happy

 Nice  Growth  Shelly,
I  just  wanted  to  ask  you  few  questions.  Did  you  already  trim  this  any  time  or  what  is  your  plan  of  maintaining  it  for  long  term?.  I  had  a  good  growth  of  HC  like  this  initially  and  I  saw  the  leaves  becoming  yellow  later  on  and  I  had  to  do  a  trimming  after  which  now  the  HC  is  catching  up.  This  is   a  little  messy  affair  as  small  pieces  of  HC  will  spread  all  around  the  tank.  After  trimming  I  am  seeing  white  leaves  at  the  bottom  which  I  believe  will  turn  green  after  few  days/weeks.
The  question  is  what  is  the  standard  practice  of  HC  keeping?  Is  there  a  period  by  which  we  need  to  trim(  before  what  I  saw  in  my  case  happens)?  What  is  the  best  suitable  dosing  schedule?

 with  best  regards,
 Sudheer

 Hi  Sudheer,

 Thanks.

I  had  not  trimmed  HC  ever  since  it  had  been  planted  in  April.  Planning  to  trim  it  soon.  I  plan  to  maintain  this  for  long  time.  For  this,  I  need  to  trim  them  in-between  so  that  they  stay  healthy.

If  you  dont  trim  HC,  it  grows  and  forms  a  thick  mat  which  would  affect  the  bottom  leaves.  The  bottom  leaves  will  not  have  light  reaching  and  it  would  start  decaying.  In  the  longer  run,  the  entire  HC  would  float  up  like  a  single  mat!!!!

So  if  you  plan  to  maintain  HC  for  a  longer  time,  trim  it  always  to  keep  it  low  so  that  the  light  would  be  reaching  the  bottom  part  of  HC  too.

Dosing  -  I  follow  EI  method.  Have  posted  my  dosing  schedule  in  previous  page  (Page  9).
CO2  -  Diffused  through  external  DIY  reactor  (Only  during  the  lighting  period)
 Lighting  -  54X4  Nos  PLL  running  @  9hrs  a  day.

 Thank  you  Shelly,
I  was  thinking  how  HC  survive  in  Nature?  or  is  this  a  way  to  spread  them  to  other  places?  once  they  float  then  water  (in  flowing  water  bodies)  can  take  them  to  other  places  and  get  them  fixed  else  where?

 with  best  regards,
 Sudheer

 @  Abhishek,

You  are  always  welcome.  Come  home  with  your  gear  and  I  will  make  the  tank  ready  for  a  photo  session.

 @  Sudheer,

I  have  not  gone  to  that  detail  to  find  how  it  grows  in  wild.  Will  do  a  study  on  that  soon.  I  got  the  HC  from  a  hobbyist  when  he  trimmed  his  HC  which  was  almost  2-3"  in  height!!!!

I  spend  hours  in  segregating  longer  strands  and  planted  each  strands  in  the  tank.

 @  Anand,

Yes.  I  will  make  the  background  ready  for  a  photo  session  :)

 @  cichlidsphere,

 Thanks.
