I  have  a  question  with,  the  links  that  Rahul  has  provided.  Will  we  be  able  to  purchase  goods  from  foreign  websites  from  here  in  India  and  get  it  delivered  to  our  residence  in  India.  I  mean  to  say,  will  there  be  any  customs  problem.  How  much  will  the  customs  charge?  there  are  few  things  which  is  simply  not  available  in  our  country,  but  seems  to  easily  available  in  these  foreign  site,  the  link  to  which  has  been  provided  by  Rahul.
How  will  the  entire  process  take  place?  Who  will  charge,  if  at  all,  customs  duty?

Also  during  checkout  time,  we  are  asked  for  options  for  shipping  the  goods.
 Like  :
US  Post  office  priority  mail  international
US  Post  office  express  mail  international
US  Post  office  global  express  guaranteed
Which  one  to  choose?  how  to  choose?  The  shipping  rates  are  different  for  each  of  the  above  categories.  what  do  they  signify?

Well,  Sandipan,  frankly  no  one  can  guarantee  you  safe  business  with  any  body  out  side  India  unless  you  have  tremendous  connections  in  the  relevant  departments.  But  then  people  get  a  lot  of  thing  from  foreign  thru  online  shops.  I  am  one  of  them.  Its  a  matter  of  risk  and  also  a  matter  of  money  that  can  be  risked.

The  shipping  modes  are,  1  normal  snail  post,  2  express  post,  3  guaranteed  live  delivery  of  plants  and  fishes.

 Hope  this  helps.

Sandipan,  most  US  retailers  will  not  ship  to  India.  Even  if  they  did,  the  cost  of  shipping  would  far  exceed  the  cost  of  the  items  purchased.

 Hi  There,

I  had  asked  my  fried  to  pick  up  an  Eheim  2028  Filter  from  Big  Al's.

Most  importantly,  if  you  buy  any  electrical  goods  from  abroad,  please  make  it  a  point  to  check  out  on  the  Voltage  range.

In  India  we  use  230-250  Volts  where  as  in  USA  it  is  110  Volts.

I  had  to  use  a  step  down  transformer.

Yes  you  are  very  very  right.  I  have  seen  that.  Not  only  in  case  of  fish  related  items,  it  is  true  for  all  other  items  also.

Actually  i  have  quite  a  few  friends  and  relatives  in  USA,  who  sometimes  travel  to  India.  I  want  to  ask  them  to  bring  some  fish  food  and  fish  keeping  accessories.  All  these  years  i  never  asked  anyone  to  bring  anything  for  me,  because  i  am  kind  of  shy  of  asking  some  favour  from  others.  Sad
Where  as  i  find  my  other  relatives  demand  chocolates  and  electronics  goods  from  people,  when  they  come  back  to  India.
Now  i  have  decided  to  shed  the  inhibitions  and  ask  them  to  bring  me  products  related  to  my  hobby.
But  the  problem  is  that,  fish  keeping  products  are  not  chocolates  or  electronic  items,  they  are  not  common  things.  On  top  of  that  i  also  do  not  have  a  clear  idea  as  to  where  in  USA  will  these  products  be  available.   Crying or Very sad  I  mean  which  shop  to  visit  and  where  are  these  shops  located  etc  etc.  As  for  example,  if  i  ask  any  of  my  relatives  to  bring  NLS  discus  food,  they  will  ask  me  what  is  it,  where  can  they  get  it  etc  etc.  I  need  to  know  things  in  details  before  i  ask  people  to  bring  products  related  to  my  hobby.
If  some  kind  hearted  person,  takes  the  pain  of  explaining  the  things  to  me,  i  will  be  highly  obliged.

You  don't  have  to  worry  about  the  shop  locations.  Just  surf  up  the  sites  cause  you  have  to  order  it  online  and  they  will  be  delivered  at  the  door  steps  in  US.  Otherwise  if  you  like  to  talk  to  someone  before  buying  something,  then  find  out  the  dealers  email  IDs  from  the  Companies  website  and  send  them  mails.

There  are  lots  of  ways  to  talk  to  them  directly.  The  solution  is  just  Surf  Up.   Thumb Up

 Sandipan,
What  I  usually  do  is  buy  the  stuff  online  and  pay  for  it.  I  have  it  shipped  to  whoever  is  there  at  the  time  (local  us  address)  and  have  them  bring  it  over  for  me.
No  one  usually  objects  to  bringing  over  some  stuff  for  you.  Just  make  sure  its  small  in  both  weight  and  volume.

 Pradeep,
Those  golden  days  may  be  over,  Airlines  in  US  are  now  charging  $15  for  the  second  checked  in  bag.  I  heard  that  the  plans  are  on  to  charge   $15  for  the  first  bag  and  $50  for  the  second  bag.  It  will  all  come  down  to  how  well  you  know  the  person  who  is  travelling.

You  can  look  at  aquabid.com  for  products  you  will  have  to  buy  at  your  own  risk.

Thank  you  MK,  Pradeep  and  Tirtha-da.
Thank  you  all  for  your  valuable  suggestion.

What  i  can  gather  from  your  posts  is  that  i  need  to  surf  the  net,  find  out  the  products  that  i  need,  pay  through  my  credit  card,  and  finally  in  the  address  section  i  must  put  the  address  of  my  relative  who  stays  in  US.  That  is  i  must  provide  an  US  address.  That  way  the  goods  will  be  delivered  to  the  person  in  US.  And  when  this  person  will  come  back  to  India,  i  will  get  it  from  him.
Am  i  right  in  my  understanding?  Please  correct  me  if  i  am  wrong.

Finally  I  would  be  really  glad  if  people  here  provide  me  with  the  address  of  US  websites,  where  i  can  buy  things  safely.  By  safety  i  mean,  they  will  almost  certainly  deliver  the  goods  in  good  condition.  There  are  many  people  here  who  have  used  this  method  of  buying  food  and  accessories.  May  you  kindly  provide  me  with  the  names  of  the  websites  from  where  you  bought  them?

I  was  mostly  talking  about  small  items  but,  I  wouldn't  mind  paying  $15  extra  for  any  extra  baggage  charges.
If  you  are  ordering  large  then  pay  the  extra  charges.
