Whatever  it  is,  it  is  very  unlikely  to  have  any  bimaculatus  genes  in  it.  That  species  was  described  from  Liberia,  based  on  a  single  specimen.  Opinion  is  somewhat  divided  as  to  whether  it  is  a  valid  species  at  all,  although  Lamboj  has  collected  fish  from  the  region  which  he  thinks  represents  H.  bimaculatus.

As  to  guttatus,  it  exhibits  a  vertically  elongate  lateral  blotch,  with  the  lateral  line  passing  through  the  lower  portion.  If  your  fish  shows  this  characteristic,  you  have  a  name.

There  have  been  many  opinions  on  as  when  the  fry  should  be  seperated  from  their  parents.
Many  have  suggested  7  days,  however  I  observed  that  the  parents  were  taking  excellant  care  of  their  young  even  after  10  days,
They  would  guide  the  whole  brood  towards  the  food  source.
i  seperated  10-15  fry  on  8th  day  in  a  small  seperate  tank  with  water  &  filter  from  original  tank,  however  these  fry  had  growth  rates  much  slower  than  the  ones  with  their  parents.
So  I  left  the  parents  in  with  brood,  the  fry  growth  rate  was  good.
After  25  days  I  removed  the  male  and  left  the  female.
After  30  days  i  removed  female  also  and  the  fry  were  alone  in  their  tank.
By  now  they  had  learned  to  recongise  the  food  as  soon  as  it  was  dropped.
Now  after  30  days  i  have  nearly  150-180  fry  in  two  tanks.  They  are  growing  at  a  good  pace.
 Will  be  putting  pictures  soon.
BTW  the  pair  has  again  bred  in  the  seperate  tank,  Now  I  have  fry  in  three  tanks.  However  this  brood  is  smaller  and  the  eheim  filter  seems  to  killed  some  of  the  fry.

 Update!!
The  fry  are  now  50days  old.
They  now  have  a  22  g  tank  of  their  own  with  a  sponge  filter.
The  rate  of  growth  seems  to  be  very  uneven,  some  are  nearly  2  cm  in  length,  however  come  are  very  small.
Are  they  supposed  to  be  segegrated  and  if  yes,  after  what  size.

OK,  I  thought  they  were  supposed  to  breed  at  4  weeks  interval.
But  I  don't  think  my  pair  has  gone  to  school  where  this  was  being  taught.
They  are  breeding  at  15  days  interval  and  all  are  hatching.  Drinking   Drinking   Drinking   Drinking
 HELP  ROFL   ROFL
I  have  50days  old  in  one  tank,  10  days  old  with  the  parents  and  they  have  again  laid  eggs  yesterday.
