a few suggestios regarding your query..
first up.. i really feel you shoud getting your wiring fixed.. well, even without condensation.. you could still get accidental shocks ( bad ones at that.. trust me!!)..
also.. if you are using t5 or t8 lights.. you could consider getting the chokes outside the hood.. you also get holders with end caps that minimise the entry of water vapour near the terminals.
the fans do help quite a bit.. they also help keep the temp down. the only drawback is that you have to keep topping up the evaporated water.
hope this helps
and btw.. great to see garothmaan back and actively posting..
even i felt that it would act as a greenhouse...Aquamann can you please give the details of your setup. Thanks
Sorry for the delay guys, for some reason I'm not getting email notices that a new post has been made. My tank isn't completely covered, there is a small gap in the back for the heater, filter and UV. Overheating isn't a problem here because it is supposed to get down to -17C this weekend!
I have always used heaters year round in every tank I owned. Also, I have lost too many fish to jumping that I always like something covering my tank.
I am a firm believer in covering any exposed electrical connections that are near water.

Just keep the Choke out of the tank,Take 2 no 500 ml Coke bottles, cut them into 2,use the top halves(With the caps)cover the tubes from either sides, pass wires through caps.this has really helped me to keep the contacts in excellent condition for years, try it
