 Buddy,
I  was  impressed  with  your  attitude  to  change  if  required  in  fish  keeping.

I  suppose  there  are  huge  bunch  of  articals  and  pics  in  this  fourm.

Look  out  for  the  Community  section  and  go  to  the  fourums  menu  at  the  left  hand  corner  of  this  page.  There  are  many  catagories  of  fishes,  There  are  loads  of  info  on  eah  of  the  catagory,  Every  thread  has  some  info  or  the  other.  Go  through  them.

There  are  many  articles  written  by  the  Guru's  of  aquarium's.  Many  of  these  are  short  lined  via  home  page  ->  Community  ->  Content  ->  <useful>

Also  in  the  home  page  go  thourgh  the  articals  at  the  bottom  segment  of  the  page.

 Raghu

Maintaining  an  aquarium  is  not  really  very  hard  work.
Most  of  the  things  that  you  have  done  are  what  require  to  be  done.
In  my  opinion  regular  water  changes  are  most  important  things  to  be  done,  this  coupled  with  some  common  sence  is  all  that  is  requied.
We  do  not  need  rocket  science  to  maintain  our  aquariums.  Very Happy
BTW  please  let  us  know  your  current  setups,  and  which  have  been  your  favourate  fish.
The  round  spotted  fish  you  have  mentioned  seems  tobe  scat  ot  "scatophagus  argus".
It  is  a  beautiful  fish  as  juvnile  but  needs  brackish  water  as  it  matures  or  else  it  dies  off  .
Check  this  link  if  this  was  your  fish  http://badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/profile56.html

 Hi  Funguy

"As  far   as  I  can  remember,  I  had  many  batches  of  gold  fish,  angel  fish,  many  varieties  of  live  bearers  like  guppies  n  platies  n  sword  tails,  quite  a  few  varieties  of  gouramis  (  usually  had  one  variety  in  the  tank  at  a  time),  tiger  barbs,  cheryy  barbs,  common  plecos,  some  variety  of  eels  and  tiger  loaches,  occassionally  Freiberg's  Mbunas,  and  a  few  flat  n  round  shapped  spotted  fish  whose  name  I  can't  remember."

I  had  32  no.  of  the  same  kind  of  fish  and  various  plants(Amazon,  Spring  Gras,  Cobomba)  in  a  2x1x1  tank  in  1975.   A  60W  normal  bulb  and  one  internal  filter  with  cotton  wool.  I  used  to  change  the  water  once  in  a  month.  I  never  had  a  problem  for  one  year  until  my  tank  broke  and  my  father  told  me  to  give  away  the  fish.  Most  of  the  fish  above  are  not  aggressive.  Hence  they  grew  together.

I  bought  a  3x1x1.5  tank  last  year  and  the  same  kind  of  fish  and  in  addition  to  that  a  pair  of  Discus.  To  my  horror,  all  the  fish  got  fungus  and  ICH  within  a  week.  Some  of  them  had  to  be  thrown  away.  I  did  not  know  why  until  one  of  the  members  of  IAH  told  me  that  within  last  thirty  years  the  fish  have  been  bred  many  generations  in  tank  and  they  have  lost  immunity  to  outside  world.  Moreover,  the  live  tubifex  worms  that  we  get  in  local  shops  come  from  sewerage.  They  get  all  kind  of  parasites  with  them.  He  gave  me  the  address  of  this  site.  After  that  I  hardly  loose  a  fish.

Currently  I  keep  Discus  only.  I  would  not  be  able  to  keep  them  without  browsing  through  IAH.

 Satish

Â @  Sandeep:  Bingo  !  That's  the  one.,  scat  !  Boy  !  Do  u  ppl  know  your  fish  or  what  !  Smile

I  presently  have  an  unused  2  ft  x  1  ft  x  1  ft.  But  I  plan  to  give  it  away  n  get  a  4  ft  x  2  ft  (tall)  x  1.5  ft.  'It's  in  the  pipeline'.  I  intend  to  do  a  bit  of  research  and  see  what  kind  of  aquarium  I  wanna  set  up  and  the  required  plants  and  what  fish  go  along  well  with  each  other  n  stuff.  N  then  I  plan  to  start  a  journal  with  pics  n  all.  I  wish  everybody  would  do  the  same.  Would  that  be  exciting  or  what  !

This  time  if  I'm  doing  it.,  i'm  gonna  be  doing  it  good.  Untill  then,  I  better  be  a  silent  student  here  on  IAH  n  learn  stuff.  It  really  feels  good  to  be  among  such  serious  fellow  aquarium  hobbyists  from  India.  N  yes,  I'm  from  India  too  .,  duh  !  Razz  Very Happy

God  is  in  the  tiny  details  friend.  The  more  you  keep  the  tank  under  control  and  monitor  its  parameters,  the  better  your  tank  inhabitants  are  going  to  be.  You  have  to  understand  that  we  try  to  recreate/emulate  nature  inside  a  glass  tank  in  some  way.
