I  had  a  question.  The  ADA  tank  in  display  that  i  saw  today  at  the  Fair.  Had  Regular  brown  gravel  mixed  with  ADA  Amazonia  II.  Traditionaly  we  have  always  stated  that  ADA  should  be  used  in  totality  in  the  tank.  This  one  surely  supprized  me.  Tirtha  you  saw  the  same  tank  as  well.  Request  all  Experienced  Planted  Gurus  to  kindly  advice.

 Cheers,
 Nirav.

Yes,  I  also  noticed  that  and  was  surprised  too.  But  Adip  cleared  up  the  confusion  later.  This  tank  was  just  for  display  porpuse  and  setup  at  Twelveth  Hour.  The  Delhi  dealer  informed  Adip  at  last  moment  and  he  setup  the  tank  in  hurry.  All  the  Plants  were  from  Adips  tank  just  were  dropped  into  that  display  tank.  So  he  could  not  manage  to  scape  it  with  ADA  only.  But  yes  you  are  right.  I  was  confused  too  when  I  first  saw  our  regular  gravels  in  a  nature  aquarium.

Addition  to  that,  I  personally  think,  we  can  use  any  inert  substrate  just  for  the  foreground  if  we  don't  have  any  plan  to  do  plantation  there.  Use  ADA  for  plantation  and  use  anything  and  everything  else  which  is  inert  for  decoration.  No  harm  at  all.  But  still  will  wait  to  see  others  opinion.

Yes  I  asked  Adip  about  it  too.  He  said,  one  can  keep  ordinary  sand/gravel  (as  long  as  it  is  calcium/'shel'  free  and  put  Amazonia  II  only  in  those  sections  where  you  want  the  plants.

Another  observation:  The  display  tank  was  purely  for  display.  I  think  as  most  of  the  plants  I  could  identify  are  reasonably  'substrate  free'  (bolibitis,  christmas  moss,  java  moss,  anubias...'

Overall,  the  fair  was  more  courful  last  time  (especially  for  other  pt  lovers   Sad  )  but  my  biggest  biggest  gain  this  year  (my  wife  has  given  me  a  go  ahead  for  an  ADA  tank   Very Happy   Very Happy  )

So  now  February  is  project  ADA.

Tirtha  but  i  remember  posting  here  few  months  back  when  i  started  my  planted  tank.  Everyone  that  time  suggested  that  no  other  substrate  can  ever  be  used  unless  you  want  to  create  a  algae  display  tank.

After  seeing  what  i  saw  and  the  little  experience  that  i  have  gained  over  time  your  thoughts  seem  to  be  right.  But  we  haven't  heard  a  word  from  the  ADA  vouchers  or  a  lot  of  those  who  promote  ADA  here  on  this  forrum.

Also  with  ADA  standards  i  always  believed  ADA  would  never  do  anything  partly.  So  even  if  it  was  last  minute  I  expected  ADA  to  be  either  be  perfect  or  not  put  its  hand  into  it.  So  are  way  saying  ADA  has  fallen  to  the  Indian  Standards  of  "jugad"  as  we  call  in  in  hindi.  Intestingly  most  of  you  mentioned  it  was  last  minute.  However  when  we  guys  visited  the  fair  it  was  the  third  day.  Had  i  seen  it  on  the  first  day  i  would  understand  that  one  would  have  been  pressed  with  time.  But  after  3  days.

A  Lot  of  people  would  visit  such  fairs  and  aspire  to  make  tanks  like  those.  I  am  not  sure  if  i  wasnt  an  IAH  user  and  just  went  there  and  would  have  been  told  that  the  tank  has  to  be  only  ADA  vs  what  i  see  i  would  have  surely  felt  a  bit  off  the  hook.

Well  the  above  are  just  my  personal  feelings  /  thoughts.  Others  are  free  to  have  their  own.  We  are  all  here  to  learn  the  best  out  of  the  best  !
