Chuckle  Mechanical  Dechlorinator.  It  sprays  the  water  like  a  shower.  I  just  bought  it  from  our  local  bazar.

This  people  use  to  convert  normal  tap  to  shower.  Can  we  use  this  to  diffuse  water  pressure  instead  of  spray  bar  ?

What  is  the  verdict  ?  Active  carbon  is  effective.  I  am  planning  to  use  is  this  as  one  of  the  media.

Not  yet,  wait,  I  have  rearranged  the  media  this  week  end.  and  planning  to  add  ceramic  rings  or  brick  pieces.  Some  how  on  the  3rd  day  water  becomes  gloomy.

I  still  need  more  time.  Fragnments  of  Active  carbon  are  fantastic  media,  but  something  more  is  required  for  making  the  water  crystal  clear,  without  adding  any  chemicals.

This  is  what  you  will  get,  but  it  requires  reasonable  amout  of  water  force

Ok,  now  seriously..  do  you  plan  to  keep  that  stock  of  golds  in  that  tank  permanently?  or  is  it  just  for  the  experiment?
I  hope  you  know  that  it  seriously  over  stocked,  it  looks  more  like  a  tank  at  LFS  rather  than  yours..
I  would  hope  that  your  experiment  will  conclude  as  early  as  possible,  for  the  sake  of  the  fish  at  least..
No  matter  what  kind  of  filter  media  you  provide,  your  water  quality  will  always  fluctuate  because  of  this..
and  your  bare  bottom  is  adding  to  it,  normally  a  mature  sand  or  gravel  substrate  will  harness  beneficial  bacteria  which  will  break  down  the  poop  and  debris  first  hand,  which  reduces  the  load  on  the  filter..
I  used  to  have  a  simple  power  head  driven  UG  filter  run  24/7  in  my  moderately  stocked  golds  tank,  apart  from  a  bit  of  occasional  algae  on  the  glass  and  rocks,  I  never  had  water  issues,  I  used  to  do  monthly  50%  water  changes..
 so  how  about  that...

I,  extremely  and  highly,  appreciate  the  caring  and  love  you  have  for  the  fishes,  you  are  marvelous.
 God  Bless  you.

How  will  it  affect  the  fishes?   If  this  proves  to  be  of  no  harm  I  will  continue,  except  that  I  will  have  abigger  tank  later,  but  as  of  now  this  is  going  to  be  the  situation.

Thats  the  name  of  the  game....  put  all  the  dump  on  the  filter  +  its  home  made  +  it  is  all  attributed  with  recycled  material  (except  the  pump).  I  would  question  here,  If  I  were  to  have  Gravel  and  used  EHIEM  what  amount  of  fishes  should  I  load  to  over  load  the  filter?  No  one  would  do  that  why  budget....  Smile

UG  in  my  opinion  would  be  a  very  desperate  filter....  I  started  my  hobby  with  it  and  I  repent  severely,  I  still  have  1  brand  new  lying  with  me  +  the  old  1.  it  sucks  (  sorry).

Thumb Up  ACTIVE  CARBON  WORKS   and  its  results  are  amazing.  Immense  water  clarity,  good  water  quality   and  less  than  50%  water  change  every  15  days.  for  2  ftrs  and  3ftrs  its  a  best  option,  with  a  maximum  8  fishes-  i.e.  goldfish,  angels, guppies,  mollies,  tetras.  Any  common  substrate-stones.  I  am  also  using  active  carbon  filter  with  plants  which  do  no  require  soil,  till  now  there  is  no  sign  of  any  detrioration  infact  the  leaves  are  realy  green  and  crispy.  even  the  water  tastes  good.

Experts  may  please  try  their  higher  knowledge  to  show  where  it  will  fail-  Chuckle

 hi,

Active  carbon  is  good  medium  but  it  wont  last  long.  Active  carbon  will  absorb  all  the  impurities  in  the  water,  but  once  it  crosses  its  threshold,  it  will  start  polluting  the  water.  you  have  to  replace  the  active  carbon  before  that  stage.

i  have  suggestion  that,  you  add  at  least  gravel  substrate  for  your  tank,  so  that  you  dont  completely  rely  on  your  filter.

 Regards
 nitin

What  will  exactly  happen  (by  meaning  pollute  the  water  after  crossing  threshold)  ?  500  gms  A  C  used  only  as  single  filter  media  and  nothing  else.

Agreed,  I  did  that  already  and  it  was  also  mentioned  by  Nidhi  for  bacterial  colony.
