 Hi  Guys,
   I've  seen  these  DIY  lighting  fixtures  when  I  had  visited  Sujo's  place  some  time  earlier  to  collect  some  glosso.
 Believe  me  they  look  really  good  on  your  tanks.
 I've  tried  these  &  i've  been  successfull.
 One  more  thing  I  would  like  to  add  is,  if  you  find  it  tough  to  fix  the  ballast  or  feel  its  costly
 you  can  also  go  ahead  with  CFL's  because  the  PVC  pipe  is  curved  which  aids  in  positioning  the  CFL  bulb.
 Ofcourse  a  different  kind  of  holder  for  the  CFL  will  be  required  which  is  available  in  most  of  the  shops.
 And  also  CFL's  with  lower  wattage  should  be  preffered  since  higher  the  wattage  the  size  of  CFl  also  increases,  which  might  not  fit  in  PVC  pipe.
   So  go  ahead  and  get  one  done  for  yourself.  Very Happy

 @Sujo:Thanks  for  posting  .
 I'm  sure  it  will  help  most  of  the  IAH  members  in  getting  a  lighting  fixture  at  the  lowest  price  possible.  Very Happy

 @deepakg
 Thanks  for  your  comments..     :-)

 @anandflower
 I  didn't  see  that  much  heat  to  affect  the  PVC.
 I  have  a  similar  4  feet  lighting,  where  I  use  54watts  lights.
 I  am  using  it  for  last  8  months  and  never  faced  any  issue.
 This  is  tested  and  working  fine  for  36watts  PL  and  54watts  T5  lights.

 @crazyomzi
 The  PVC  is  hard  enough  to  be  straight.
 My  lights  are  not  making  that  much  heat  to  bend  the  PVC.
 It  will  not  bend  unless  you  apply  heat  from  external  sources  and  try  to  bend  it.
 Just  by  checking  a  4"  PVC  pipe,  you  can  see  how  solid  it  is.

 @Chetesh
 Hi  Chethesh,
 Nice  to  see  you  here  after  a  long  time..   :-)
 Also  happy  to  hear  that  your  tried  this  method  and  became  successful.
 I  have  never  tried  CFL  in  my  tanks  so  I  cannot  comment  the  performance  and  heat  of  CFL.
 One  advantage,  which  I  can  see  on  CFL  is  that  we  don't  have  to  bother  about  fitting  the  ballast  as  CFL  doesn't  need  a  ballast.

 @sujo:
    Thats  right,  we  don't  need  a  ballast  for  CFL's.
 I've  been  using  CFL's  for  my  8  gallon  tank  with  your  light  fixture  design.
 I  observed  that  there  will  be  some  heat  towards  the  CFL  holder  but  is  not  high  as  to
 bend  the  PVC  or  make  it  brittle..
   Very Happy

 Top  Class.
 One  question  on  my  mind  is  --  is  it  possible  to  insulate  the  pll.
 As  direct  exposure  to  water  could  cause  the  pll  to  fuse  and  go  blank.

 Salute  your  patience,  Sujo,
                                                                                       In  Kerala  these  days  I  am  seeing  many  use  this  PVC  halves  for  "Pathi",  (  for  channeling  water  coming  out  from  slanted  roof  to  one  place  and  down  to  the  Earth),  and  thought  they  are  available  as  halves  ready-made.  Cutting  with  Haxo  is  really  a  tough  thing.!!

 @menonabhishek
 Thanks...
 I  will  be  happy  to  see  your  DIY  in  IAH..     :)

 @nandy
 Thanks

 @Sudheerj
 I  think  you  already  tried  to  cut  it...   Smile
 If  it  is  available  ready  made,  it  is  good.
 Cutting  2  feet  PVC  into  half  is  a  15minutes  hard  work.
 We  have  to  be  careful  while  cutting  otherwise  the  cut  will  not  be  straight..
 Other  than  cutting  this  PVC,  everything  else  is  easy.
 If  some  one  can  share  an  easy  way  to  cut  this,  it  will  be  good.

 @sreeni_mysore
 Hi  Sreeni,
 I  feel  that  there  is  not  much  need  of  insulating  the  PL  light.
 What  we  have  to  do  is  to  protect  it  from  falling  to  water.

 There  are  2  screws  connected  to  the  main  PVC  to  stop  the  main  PVC  from  moving  left  and  right.
 You  can  see  them  in  red  color  in  the  image  below.
 These  screws  will  just  touch/slide  the  pvc  stand.
 This  is  a  kind  of  protection  for  the  main  pvc  from  falling  into  water.

 Water  splashing  and  light  getting  wet  is  a  possible  issue  but  I  have  never  faced  that  issue.
 May  need  some  splash  protector  to  address  it.
 .
 .
