One  more  tip  for  using  breather  bags  on  a  long  trip.

It  is  better  to  pack  the  fishes  in  regular  bags  initially.  After  around  12hours,  they  would  have   pooped  enough.  Then  bag  them  in  breather  bags  at  night  or  next  morning.  This  reduces  water  changes  needed  for  fishes  caught  on  previous  day.

For  short  trips,  I  guess  regular  covers(properly  packed)  are  as  effective  as  breather  bags.

And  Madhu's  points  on  best  practices.  That  is  the  key  to  bringing  back  fishes  with  least  mortality.  Even  without  breather  bags.

Where  do  we  get  these  breather  bags?  and  are  these  suitable  for  labyrinth  fish  as  well?

Humaid,  Thanks.  You  will  have  to  source  the  breather  bags  from  US  of  A.

A  few  quick  fish  images  from  the  field.  Glyptothorax  lonah,  Mystus  cf.  malabaricus,  Schistura  denisonii.

Re.  breather  bags,  you  can  ship  bettas  in  them,  but  as  all  anabantoids  need  to  breathe  air,  you  have  to  include  an  air  space  in  the  bag,  which  somewhat  defeats  the  purpose  of  using  a  breather  bag  in  the  first  place.
