I  was  planning  to  soak  it  in  water.  I  am  really  wondering   how  to  boil  such  a  large  piece  of  wood.  It's  not  large  as  such  but  spread  that  it  cannot  be  accommodated  in  any  vessel  I  have  and  also  it's  gonna  take  significant  amount  of  power  /gas  to  boil  it.

 Pleas  share  you  idea.

 Thanks,
 Manish

 Srinidhi,

I  have  rescaped  my  aquarium.  It's  pretty  much  from  scratch  since  ADA  aqua   soil  has  been  scrambled  while  removing  dead  plants  due  to  H2O2.
Need  your  advice  on  fertilizer  and  water  change.

Do  I  need  to  replace  30%  water  every  day  as  I  did  when  my  aquarium  was  new?
 When  should  I  start  fertilizer?

My  aquarium  is  cloudy  as  of  now  and  I  hope  it  will  clear  in  couple  of  days.  Will  post  pictures  soon.

 Thanks
 Manish

 Hi  Manish,
First  remove  water  as  much  as  you  could  till  the  substrate,  place  a  plastic  sheet  at  the  bottom  and  slowly  refill  the  tank.
This  will  take  care  of  the  cloudy  water.
And  yes,  you  will  have  to  do  the  daily  water  changes.
Initially  fertilize  only  with  micro  and  Potassium  for  a  couple  of  months.  start  with  heavy  planting  from  the  start  itself.
Keep  the  lighting  duration  for  6  hours  for  a  couple  of  weeks  and  then  ramp  up  to  10  hours  by  increasing  1/2  hour  weekly.

As  always  Thank  you  Srinidhi,   Smile

I  am  keeping  light  on  for  6  hours  11  AM  to  2  PM  and  then  blackout  of  2  hours  and  then  4  PM  to  7  PM.  Is  that  good  or  should  I  keep  lights  on  continuously  for  6  hours  that  is  11  AM  to  5  PM  ?

I  have  started  dosing  fertilizers  potassium  and  iron.

Also,  daily  30%  water  change  for  how  many  days  ?

Here  is  list  of  plants  from  http://www.sreepadma.com/

Nice  tank..  Wish  you  luck.  Only  thing:  you  need  to  be  watchful  on  the  tripartita  as  it  grows  vertically  many  times.

Coming  to  learning  about  the  tank:  your  experience  would  be  the  best  teacher.  Dont  be  afraid  to  make  mistakes.

 Cheers,

 Karthik

Well,  that's  a  very  good  start..
Yes,  keep  the  lights  on  for  6  hrs  continues  per  day..
Increase  an  hour  per  week  till  you  reach  10  hrs.
Then  you  can  start  split  photoperiod..

Afterwards  weekly  water  changes  will  sufficie..

Thank  you  Srinidhi  and  friends  for  your  help  and  suggestions.  I  feel  quite  confident  now   Very Happy   Thumb Up

Still  there  is  lot  of  room  for  improvement  and  I  am  keep  trying   Smile

I  am  posting  after  3  months,  during  the  course  of  3  months  I  shifted  plants  multiple  times/trimmed  and  here  is  the  outcome.

My  aquarium  was  almost  stabilized  and  then  my  Eheim  filter  impeller  and  shaft  broke  last  week.  I  had  to  reduce  light  to  2  hours  since  I  have  inline  co2  diffuser  and  green  spot  algae  started  growing  on  the  glass  due  to  lack  of  CO2.  Fixed  filter  yesterday  and  its  up  and  running.  Plants  needs  some  time  to  recover  from  blackout  of  a  week  though.  I  was  using  my  old  and  very  basic  filter  during  this  time.

Here  is  brief  recap  on  my  aquarium  specs:

 Dimension  :  L24”  x  W18”  x  H18”

Substrate  :  Base  layer  of  1~2”  CaribSea  Eco-Complete  and  top  layer  1.5”  ADA  Amazonia.

Lighting  :  Started  with  6  hours  and  now  9  hours  continuous.  DIY  LED  at  75%  brightness
Cree  XTE  -  5  Watt  x  15  leds  -  distributed  in  two  rows
  EPISTAR  -   4  x  Blue  and  2  x  Red  1  Watt  -  distributed  in  two  rows

Fertilizer  :  Started  with  EI  and  then  shifted  to  Seachem  iron  and  potassium.  2  ml  of  iron  and  potassium  alternate  day.

Water  change  :30%  once  a  week.

Filters  :  Eheim  2213  and  another  basic  hang  on  filter  to  create  wave  since  I  was  tired  of  white  slime  like  film  on  the  surface  of  water  which  started  accumulating  on  the  glass.  This  slime  disappeared  after  I  installed  hand  on  filter.

Here  is  a  short  video  of  my  aquarium  :  https://youtu.be/6pKIt3pW8UU

 Regards,
 Manish
