 Hello  All,

Today  my  LFS  guy  advised  to  have  a  fire  extinguisher  for  CO2  rather  than  yeast  sugar  mixture.
Has  anyone  done  such  a  thing  before??

People  who  use  CO2  compressed  gas  cylinders,  some  times  do  use  fire  extinguisher  cylinders  because  they  are  small  in  size.  I  use  a  22  kg  CO2  cylinder.

CO2  is  available  in  Commercial  98%  purity,  Food  99%  purity  and  Medical  100%  purity,  grades.

Any  one  of  them  can  be  used  for  Planted  aquaria.  Cost  difference  is  Rs.1/-  per  kg.

Puneit,  from  your  posts  I  can  make  out  that  you  know  nothing  about  Compressed  CO2  gas  cylinders.

I  suggest  you  first  decide  on  what  size  of  cylinder  will  suit  your  requirement.  Height  and  diameter.
Then  check  out  locally  from  the  yellow  pages  for  CO2  cylinder  suppliers  /  Fire  extinguisher  sellers.

Surf  the  web  a  bit  for  more  info.

Then  decide  on  the  cylinder  and  if  you  can  afford  the  price.
Once  you  have  deceided  on  the  cylinder  -  they  come  by  the  weight  of  gas  they  can  hold,  please  ask  us  how  long  will  they  last.

There  is  nothing  like  a  "normal"  fire  extinguisher  cylinder.  Fire  extinguishers  come  in  different  sizes  depending  on  the  volume  of  the  space  they  are  required  to  protect.

FYI  my  22  kgs  cylinder  lasts  me  14  months  running  4  planted  tanks  on  CO2.

A  2kgs  cylinder  running  one  tank  lasts  about  2  1/2  months.

Read  up  more  about  Compressed  CO2  cylinders  for  planted  aquaria  and  all  the  other  accessories  required  along  with  a  CO2  cylinder  -  you  need  a  regulator  +  a  needle  valve  +  tubing  +  diffuser  or  reactor  to  dissolve  the  CO2.

Check  out  availability  of  the  same  in  your  area.

In  case  you  don't  find  any,  please  post  here  and  some  one  will  be  willing  to  send  it  to  you.

Read  up  on  how  to  use  CO2  for  planted  aquaria  on  the  net  .

Check  out  ease  of  refilling  the  cylinder  and  cost  in  your  city  too.

You  are  correct  Madan.  I  don't  know  about  compressed  CO2  cylinders.
Anyways,  I  shall  do  my  homework  and  get  back  to  you  in  case  I  get  stuck
 Thanks  a  lot
