 Hello  all,

I  have  a  130  gal  tank  ,  heavily  planted  and  to  be  very  honest  a  real  neat  looking  one, beautiful  pearling,  plants  are  pruned  every  week, every  thing  looks  lovely.

around  last  week  i  started  noticing  some  worms  which  i  thought  were  planaria,(  but  since  i  had  only  ottos  in  the  tank  i  was  not  feeding  and  i  had  absolutely  no  idea  from  where  they  came  from),  but  prompltly  treated  them  with  DICARIS  (Levamasole),  well  to  my  surprise  i  am  seeing  atleast  250-300  of  them  on  the  glass  today  and  they  look  like  leeches  and  not  planaria.(  i  have  religiously  followed  the  KMNO4  routine  before  planting  anything).

I  then  did  a  50%  WC  and  treated  it  with  PARAZIN-P  from  waterlife,  and  nothings  changed,  im  searching  for  Dimilin(  based  on  a  few  old  posts  on  this  forum)  but  i  havnt  got  my  hands  on  it  till  now. Can  anybody  help  me  get  rid  of  this  pest.I  will  be  ever  be  obliged  to  you.
If  you  have  anyother  treatment  meathods  which  do  not  harm  the  plants  ,i'm  all  for  it,  I  dont  want  to  redo  the  whole  thing,  because  i  guess  i  would  have  to  change  the  substrate  too,  The  tank  has  been  standing  for  almost  15  months  now.

 PLEASE  PLEASE  HELP.

 Hi,
I  had  seen  such  worms  on  my  gold  fish  and  Gauramies  and  if  they  are  not  removed  they  will  send  the  fish  to  heaven  as  you  observed.  Mostly  this  comes  from  LFS,  did  you  add  any  new  fish  recent  past?.  There  may  be  larvae  coming  with  fish  and  they  becomes  worms  after  reaching  to  a  suitable  environment.   I  had  to  remove  them  from  each  fish  using  tweezers  manually  I  could  not  find  any  other  solution.  If  you  start  removing  them  at  an  early  stage  they  will  not  spread  and  thing  will  be  easy.
 with  best  regards,
 Sudheer

What  you  are  referring  to  Sudhir,  I  believe  is  anchor  worms  and  not  leaches.  Use  rock  salt  to  kill  all  leaches.  use  moderate  quantity  that  will  let  your  plants  survive  but  kill  the  pests  over  a  period  of  say  7-10  days.

 I  am  not  sure  Dev,
If  both  are  same,  but  the  one  which  was  there  in  his  hand(in  photo)  looked  similar  to  the  ones  I  removed  from  body  of  Gauramies.  Are  leaches  supposed  to  attach  to  fishes?.  I  thought  the  one  he  describe  as  leach  and  one  he  shows  as  removed  from  fish  is  different(  at  least  from  picture).  Leach  he  says  are  of  1  inch  length  but  the  one  on  his  finger  tip  is  much  smaller  and  look  like  worm.  Also  he  says  the  one's  he  had  sucks  blood  from  fish(  I  assumed  this  is  because  he  sees  them  attached  to  the  body  of  fish).
Please  correct  if  I  am  wrong.

Hrishi.  its  a  6-ft*  21*22  inch  tank  ,  with  contra-soil  as  substrate  mixed  with  ferka  Aqua  soil,  Ehiem  2080  filtration  with  pressurised  co2,  Lighting  is  around  1w/Lt.,  i  use  Ferka  balance-K  and  aquatilizer.

If  i  have  to  let  the  worms  enjoy,  then  i  cant  and  should  not  put  in  any  fishes  i  guess,  and  if  the  worms  are  left  unchecked  i  guess  its  population  keeps  on  increasing.  well,  there  has  to  be  something  to  get  rid  of  it...if  everything  turns  futile  then  i  think  im  going  to  dump  a  bottle  of  tic-20  and  atleast  have  the  satisfaction  of  having  killed  all  of  them.

BTW...  i  started  treating  the  tank  with  ocean  free  -Kill  parasite.  well  i  just  have  to  wait  and  watch.
this  thread(  link  attached)  evoked  a  lot  of  interest  in  me  to  try  Dimilin  :

 http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7909&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=kmno4&start=0

@  DEV:  i  guess  i  will  try  it..  but  was  just  waiting  if  anyone  could  give  inputs  on  how  much  effective  Dimilin  would  be  ..

Sudheer:  both  the  worms  are  the  same  ,  and  the  worm  on  the  glass  and  in  the  palm  are  the  same, the  worm  sucks  blood  for  sure,i  have  seen  them..  and  i  have  2  angels  in  fishy  heaven  who  can  swear  by  it.!!!

The  movement  of  the  worm  is  something  like  the  movement  of  worms  you  find  in  mmmmm....  Rice.  it  has  a  butt  and  a  head,  the  head  moves  and  the  body  elongates  head  gets  anchored  and  then  the  butt  moves  to  where  the  head  is..it  goes  on..  and  i  very  rarely  see  them  when  the  lights  are  on,  but  i  switch  on  the  lights  in  the  middle  of  the  night  i  can  get  dozens  on  the  glass,  and  literally  hanging  from  almost  all  leaves.

Please  correct  if  I  am  wrong.
 with  best  regards,
 Sudheer

 Thanks  madmax  for  clarification,
If  they  are  in  dozens  then  picking  them  is  not  possible.  But  I  think  it  is  worrying  that  they  are  killing  fishes.  After  removing  the  left  over  fishes  you  may  try  Devs  suggestion  and  after  2  3  weeks  wait  and  water  changes  you  may  introduce  fishes  again,  It  is  bad  that  such  a  beautiful  scape  is  infected.
 with  best  regards,
 Sudheer
