I got my pethia gelius about two months back. All are alive and active but and I can say for sure they've all grown a bit.
But any time I look at them they look as if they're starving. Bellies are always empty looking except just after a feeding. The gill covers appear to overhang the bellies.
I feed them a DIY gel food (pangasius + chicken liver + vitamin c + red bell pepper + garlic) and they go bananas over it. They forage from the bottom and the water column and will even gather enough courage to take it floating.
What's up? I mean seriously if they always look like this who's gonna keep them?

I don't think you should feed them Pangasius or chicken liver. Replicating their natural diet will work better, just go with blood worms or Tubifex. If not possible, Tetra Bits or any other good quality pellets will work.

Thanks shovelnose for the suggestion. As it happens I have since changed them to tetra bits in the morning and DIY in the evening. Am trying grindals but they are nt doing too well in the heat up north.

Mine are doin well on a diet of dry tubifex worms and spirulina pellets. Even spawned a few times.
They seem to love grazing on algae wafers too.
Try feeding tubifex/bloodworms maybe twice a day in addition to your DIY food.
