Tips for choosing a good flowerhorn juvi
1. Always buy your flowerhorn from a reputed LFS or breeder.
2. As flowerhorn are aggressive in nature any flowerhorn which hides or sulks is a big no, no.
3. See for the flowering pattern the more the flowering pattern the more good. Also the pearl pattern will also count.
4. The finnage should be good and spread out.
5. Notice for any unusual produting of eyes. You can always avoid and choose a normal eye one.
6. If importing a flowerhorn ask for a quarentine certificae and also notice for its grading. There are 3 gradings AAA, AA and A. AAA gradings are costly but worth having.
7. Notice the tank bottom for its Poo if it is white in colour stay away it might have some internal problem.
8. Watch it during feeding time. They are voracious eaters and should gulp food as it is dropped. Shying away indicates internal disease.
9. In my experience juviniles dont sport much of colour or hump. But there should be some trace of colour and formation of hump.
10. Any flowerhorn having exceptional colour below 2.5 - 3" is best left alone as they may be hormone juiced which fades away in due course.
This is my parameters for choosing a flowerhorn juvinile. I think Jibran will be able to guide you more. |

Ugly tank, most definitely. Still in the process of setting up my Arowana tank. Once thats done, focus shifts to this particular tank as its a crime to leave it the way it is right now.
As far as keeping it an Oscar only tank, tempting as it may be, as I mentioned earlier space is something of a luxury now in my house as 6 tanks have rapidly cropped up from nowhere over the past 6 months or so and another tank might result in me being evicted from my own room. So gonna lie low for a bit |

Update: The bullying has commenced as anticipated. Two of the slightly larger oscars have started harassing the smaller ones as I can spot a few shredded fins and tails. Anything I could do to disperse the aggression ? Suggestions please |

Hiding places are aplenty. I guess the bullying is just natural |

haha...you been advocating an all oscar tank since like inception. Maybe I might have to take you up on your suggestion after all. The damned FH jumped across the frikking glass barrier too but surprisingly no harm was done as I saw them swimming along without any malice. Strange |
