All pictures (and videos) I had seen of the sp. Assam were in dimly lit tanks with lots of cover.Had I seen that pic before, I would have definitely got all the half-dozen sp. Assam specimen the store had. (They don't have these in their store any more. I will check again this weekend and inquire if they have it in some storage facility.)

these guys look very good in a heaviliy planted biotope setup. I have mine currently in a tank full of plants and the ground is full of leaves (jackfruit and badam). Lots of hiding space, but since these guys are in the process of pairing up and fighting with each other, this is defintily required.
I also noticed that the colour really gets stunning if they are kept in darker conditions, if kept to brightly they will look quite dull.
Hope that helps. Heard quite a few times that this species and the bleheris are considered quite rare and are under the risk of becoming extinct, cannot check that in person, but that should be incentive enough to breed them ;-0
