You  can  do  that  by  piling  the  substrate  itself,  to  give  some  structure  to  it  you  can  use  pieces  of  rock  to  form  a  boudry  around  the  mound  of  substrate,  need  not  be  very  specific  about  the  rocks  you  choose  as  it  will  get  covered  a  bit  by  the  substrate  anyways  and  by  the  foreground  plants  when  they  grow  out.

Go  in  details  through  the  link  and  other  sections  as  well,  There  is  a  LOT  of  information  in  there

What  type  of  plants  are  you  going  to  use,  a  lot  would  depend  on  that.
Over  a  period  of  time  any  slopes  or  grading  in  substrate  will  get  evened  out,  unless  you  are  using  grade  seperaters.
These  rocks  would  not  look  nice  in  a  planted  aquarium.
In  a  planted  aquarium,  driftwood,  natural  looking  rocks  and  plants  are  main  components.
in  my  opinion  first  list  out  what  plants  are  available  to  you,  get  some  rocks.

This  was  one  of  my  early  attempts,  and  has  some  good  tips  from  MAdan

 Hi  Hrishi

First  of  all  welcome  to  the  planted  world!  Smile  Now  to  answer  your  question  directly  about  the  kind  of  setup  you  are  looking  at,  one  of  the  ways  to  achieve  it  is  to  use  very  high  gradient  slopes  from  one  of  the  back  corners.  then  you  can  use  bigger  stones  at  the  bottom  of  the  slope,  this  will  achieve  two  things  gives  you  support  for  the  slope  and  using  bigger  stones  in  the  front  of  the  aquarium  will  improve  depth  of  the  sacpe.  then  you  can  place  smaller  stones  along  the  slope,  leaving  enough  place  for  plants  like  glosso,  HC  etc.

Rock  selection  will  be  very  crucial  go  with  "earthy"  colours.  I  particularly  will  recommend  Ryuoh  stones.

the  link  above  is  an  aquascape  along  the  same  lines.....something  to  aspire  for  Smile.  Hope  this  helps....

BTW  just  remembered  Adip  has  done  an  aquascape  like  this  Adipa  put  up  some  pics!!

 All  The  Best!!

Oh  BTW  the  gradients  can  remain  as  is  if  the  soil  used  is  good!  none  of  my  aquascapes  have  had  issues  of  sliding  or  leveling  out.

hi...though  i  m  not  a  planted  aquariums  expert  some  idea  from  me
you  said  you  want  to  make  a  mountain  like  structure.....try  to  find  some  3-4  rectangular  rocks(like  bricks)
arrange  all  nearby.....grow  any  kind  of  moss  on  them...it  give  a  awesome  canyon  like  effect

Plecos  in  planted  tank,  well  some  of  the  planted  tank  experts  have  recommended  not  to  PUT  pleco  in  a  planted  setup

Let  wait  for  others  comments  and  Otto  needs  algae  for  food  if  you  dont  have  then  suppliment  their  diet  with  algae  wafers.
