 I  think  it  would  be  better  to  post  any  pointers  to  the  shop  which  sells  the  powerhead/pump  here,  instead  of  individual  PMs  (hope  it  is  not  against  the  forum  rules  -  in  that  case,  plz  PM  me  the  shop  name/location  as  well  Thumb Up   )

 shishir  kamat  Â the  cola  bottels  are  light  and  the  hight  is  prob  ,they  fall  to  bottom  with  the  power  head  force.

 No,  cola  bottles  work  just  fine.  Been  there,  done  that.  You  can  also  get  PET  jars  for  a  couple  of  bucks  from  raddi  wallahs.

 I  picked  up  one  if  these  4-5  yrs  back  from  S.P  road,  A  small  pump  ment  for  indoor  fountains.  It  work  fine  for  2  yrs  and  after  it  gave  up  its  life  i  opend  it  up  to  find  the  shaft  was  made  of  copper.

 i  dont  think  it  can  be  used  in  a  marine(reef)  tank

 I  prefer  to  use  the  ones  ment  for  aquarium  use,  Less  noise  and  better  reliablity  IMO.

 I  don't  remember  the  name  of  the  shop.  Walk  down  SP  Road  in  Bangalore  and  you'll  find  many  shops  with  powerheads  on  display  in  their  windows.  C'mon  it's  just  a  20  minute  walk  on  SP  Road  and  you  are  through  end  to  end,  they  have  dug  up  the  place  though  when  I  last  went  there  looking  for  heat  shrink  silicon  tubing  for  DIY  light  fittings.  Walk  in  to  any  shop  with  these  powerheads  on  display  and  you'll  see  a  lot  more  models  and  sizes.  All  fully  submersible  and  pretty  good  quality.

 As  for  the  price,  I  don't  know  what  they  are  priced  at  today.  I  can  guarantee  they'll  cost  1/4  to  1/3  rd  what  you'll  pay  for  a  similar  powerhead  marked  "for  aquariums"  in  any  LFS.

 If  anyone  does  visit  SP  Road  for  these  Powerheads  please  get  the  address  in  on  this  thread.

 In  case  you  want  to  know  what  the  powerhead  looks  like,  visit  Govt.  Aquarium  in  Cubbon  Park,  and  take  a  look  at  the  powerheads  driving  the  UGF  on  the  large  tanks  in  the  1st  floor.

 @IQSS
 What  is  the  size  of  your  aquarium.  Doesnt  the  cooler  pump  make  a  lot  of  turbulance  in  the  water.  Are  the  fish  comfortable  with  it?

 Try  to  cover  the  sand  with  a  piece  of  old  vest.  The  efficacy  will  improve.  It  works  with  the  conventional  filter.
