I  am  taking  a  two  week  holiday  in  Goa  late  October  2006.
I  was  wondering  if  there  are  any  fish  keepers  in  Goa  who  I  can  meet  up  with.
Are  there  any  tropical  fish  societies  or  clubs  in  Goa?

I  am  hoping  to  check  out  fish  populations  and  water  parameters  in  ponds  and  streams  around  Candolim,  Calangute  and  Baga.   I  will  be  photographing  a  lot  of  these  small  fish  that  I  catch.

Little  chance  of  bringing  any  of  these  fish  back  to  London  as  hand  luggage  now,  with  the  recent  bomb  scares  and  the  apparent  threat  from  liquid  bombs.

Are  there  any  books  on  tropical  fish  in  and  around  Goa?

Look  forward  to  hearing  from  some  of  you.

 Kind  regards,
 Iggy

Does  any  one  know  the  addresses  for  the  two  fish  shops  in  Panjim,  Goa:
 1)   BISLIN
 2)   SOMETHING  FISHY.

I  would  be  grateful  for  any  help.
I  have  looked  on  the  internet,  with  no  luck.

I  guess  they  will  be  listed  in  the  telephone  directory,  if  any  one  is  willing  to  look  that  up  for  me.

 Thanks,
 Iggy

I  guess  Something  Fishy  is  at  Mangalore.  Not  sure  if  there's  one  more  at  Goa.

 Hi  Aquascapes,
Goanet,  an  internet  news  paper  based  in  Goa,  are  in  the  process  of  getting  the  addresses  of  the  Fish  shops  in  Goa.
If  there  are  fish  shops  there  are  fish  keepers.
I  will  then  write  to  the  fish  shops  and  track  down  a  few  fishkeepers.

When  in  Goa,  I  will  introduce  any  fishshops  I  visit  and   fishkeepers  I  meet  to  IAH.

 All  the  best,
 Iggy

Got  a  lot  of  help  from  Frederick  Noronha  of  Goanet:  www.goanet.org/

Here  are  the  telephone  numbers  of  Fish  Shops  in  Goa:
 Bislin
 Miramar,  Goa
 0832  2464023

 Something  Fishy
 Miramar,  Goa
 0832  2462365

 Pet  World
 Caranzalem,  Goa
 0832  2461548

 Water  Babies
 Navelim,  Goa
 0832  2730059

 Aqua  Fish  Emporium
 Vasco,  Goa
 0832  2511624

I  have  been  in  touch  with  Bislin  who  have  said  that  they  will  make  arrangements  for  me  to  meet  one  or  two  fish  keepers.
No  fish  clubs  in  Goa  located  yet.

Also  made  call  to  Rahul  Alvares
 www.authorama.com/free-from-school-1.html
 http://www.geocities.com/rahulsnakesite/index.html
who  will  take  me  to  some  interesting  fishing  sites.
 Making  a  few  more  contacts.

So  I  think  that  I  am  well  set  up.
Taking  some  fish  nets  with  me.

Can't  wait  to  get  to  Goa  now.

 All  the  best,
 Iggy

Great,  I  am  going  to  be  in  GOA  end  of  September  2006.  Obviously,  your  list  is  going  to  come  in  handy  for  me  too.  BTW,  where  were  you  planning  to  go  catch  some  fish,  hubby  and  I  can  prolly  have  our  own  little  expedition.  Aren't  there  any  Goan  fishkeepers  on  this  site?

 Hi  ClownyGirl  &  Aquascapes,
I  am  Goan,  born  in  Africa  and  living  in  London.
I  was  last  in  Goa  for  2  weeks  10  years  ago!!   Time  goes  by  so  quickly.

ClownyGirl,  where  are  you  going  to  be  based  when  you  are  in  Goa.
 Calangute  or  Colva  or  elsewhere?
Are  you  going  to  be  photographing  the  fish  that  you  catch?

I  would  go  prepared  with  your  fishing  nets  as  it  might  be  difficult  to  get  what  you  need  immediately?   Are  you  hoping  to  take  fish  home?
Please  let  us  know  what  fish  you  catch?   And  where  you  catch  them.

The  Fish  shops  in  Goa  only  stock  foreign  fish  I  am  told.
 Maybe  a  barb  or  two.

I  have  not  located  any  fish  societies  in  Goa  yet.

Look  forward  to  hearing  from  you.

 All  the  best,
 Iggy

 Hello  Scorpionpereira,
You  surname  tells  me  that  you  are  probably  Goan.

I  might  be  passing  through  Mumbai  early  next  year.
I  will  certainly  get  in  touch  if  and  when  I  do.

As  a  kid  I  remember  visiting  a  Public  Aquarium  in  Mumbai.  Don't  know  which  one.   Guess  there  must  be  several  of  these  in  Mumbai  now.

Do  you  ever  go  down  to  Goa?

By  the  way  what  fish  do  you  keep?

At  the  moment,  I  am  trying  killifish  for  the  first  time  (See  Killi  in  new  subject)
I  even  have  a  pair  of  Goan  Aplocheilus  lineatus,  Golden  Wonder,  spawning  sporadically  in  a  tank  in  the  garden.

 Thanks  for  getting  in  touch,
 Iggy

These  are  some  pics  of  what  we  caught  in  North  Karnataka  close  to  the  Goa  border  last  year.
 Aplocheilus  lineatus.
 Indian  Dwarf  Shrimp  fry.
Macrobrachium.  (The  big  claw  was  damaged  in  a  fight)
 Puntius  Shyadriensis
 Tetraodon  Travencoricus
The  shrimp  and  killi's  are  breeding.  The  second  pic  from  the  top  is  of  the  fry  bred  from  the  guys  we  caught.
