First,  forgive  me  for  the  kind  of  picture  that  it  is.  Shot  in  bad  daylight  with  an  ordinary  P&S  digital.  I  had  no  way  of  avoiding  my  frame  in  the  picture  because  this  is  on  my  balcony  under  a  shade  net  and  I  was  working  alone.

I  am  converting  this  tank  into  an  indoor  low-tech  planted  tank  shortly  and  this  was  shot  moments  before  I  tore  it  down  this  afternoon.  Removed  over  500  vallisneria  shoots  from  this  2.5x1.5x1.5  tank.

Don't  be  alarmed  at  the  fish  list.  The  major  inhabitants  are  the  rosy  barbs  about  30  of  them,  followed  by  cardinal  tetras  (12),  Congo  tetras  (pair),  Serpae  Tetras  (a  pair  of  stowaways),  1  Tiger  Panchax  (stowaway  again),  1  Small  Platy  (Just  to  check  growth  and  finnage),  Checker  Barbs  (6),  1  Otocinclus  and  1  Golden  SAE.

This  was  just  an  experiment  tank  for  over  8  months  now  trying  to  grow  plants  under  diffused  sunlight.  Initially  had  to  battle  with  a  lot  of  algae.  But  of  late,  only  a  little  bit  of  GSA.

The  rosy  barbs  are  home  bred  and  do  not  trouble  the  rest  of  the  group.  In  fact  my  platy  actually  chases  them  around  a  lot.

 Thanks,  Niranjan.

This  was  actually  my  second  set  of  Vallisneria  that  I  had  planted  here.  As  the  tank  had  considerably  matured,  the  second  set  grew  at  almost  twice  the  speed  of  the  first  set.

Moving  all  the  Vallisneria  into  a  cement  tank,  so  I  guess  it's  ok.  Besides,  it's  high  time  I  started  working  on  a  proper  planted  tank  and  indoors.

   Very Happy

Not  the  most  beautiful  tank  I  have  seen  but  certainly  one  of  the  best.  A  proper  jungle  of  vals  is  reall  impressive  like  this  tank  is.

Wonderful  tank  Thumb Up  !  gr8  contrast  between  plants  &  fishes.  Sunlight  is  really  good  for  plants,  even  I  run  a  lowtech  pot  with  a  lot  of  plants,  earlier  posted  on  IAH,  going  to  upgrade  it  into  15  gallon  tank.

Suraj,  you  have  done  something  very  different  among  planted  tanks.  Simple  and  nice  to  see.

 Thanks  for  the  replies,  Guys.

The  substrate  is  plain  acid-washed  gravel.  Nothing  else  added.  All  ferts  are  from  the  fish.   Chuckle  Initially,  since  the  substrate  was  fresh,  I  had  a  heck  of  a  problem  getting  plants  to  grow.  Algae  always  took  over  no  matter  what.  Gradually,  I  switched  over  to  Vals  and  the  way  Vals  fought  out  the  algae  is  amazing.  The  first  batch  of  the  Vals  were  thin  and  short  and  turned  out  to  be  translucent  as  there  was  no  fert  dosing.  But  as  the  tank  matured,  I  removed  the  entire  first  batch  and  planted  about  10  Vals  and  the  rate  at  which  they  grew  was  amazing.

I  removed  over  500  of  them  in  the  tank  yesterday  and  I  haven't  touched  the  Giant  Vals  yet.  Should  have  atleast  30  of  them.  I  think  the  growth  was  mainly  due  to  the  maturing  of  the  substrate  as  you  can  see,  it  has  gone  dark.

I  am  moving  all  the  Vals  into  my  cement  tank  where  I  have  grown  mainly  algae  and  nothing  else   Chuckle  among  plants.  Not  even  duckweed  and  pistia  survived  in  this  one.  I  put  in  a  few  Vals  sometime  back  and  they  have  risen  to  the  surface.  The  cement  tank  is  hard  water  (1300  ppm)  and  has  a  group  of  black  ruby  barbs,  veiltail  serpae  tetras,  black  phantoms  and  some  leopard  danios.

I  love  val  jungles.  I  had  one  for  my  angels.
Diffused  sunlight  is  best  for  all  plants,  some  time  back  I  had  initiated  a  long  thread  on  sunlight  for  planted  tanks.
The  leaves  are  thicker,  stronger,  and  much  healthy.  Also  the  when  the  surface  of  tank  is  covered  with  long  leaves,  it  provides  a  good  hiding  place  for  fishes.  My  angels  used  to  go  on  breeding  spree  in  this  tank.
