Its  been  a  while  but  I  have  finished  my  Filter.

I  don't  have  an  overflow  box  or  anything  as  of  yet  but  only  use  the  filter  while  I  am  at  home  in  the  room....Good  thing.

I  used  a  10  Gallon  Aquarium  divided  into  4  Chambers.  It  is  very  similar  to  one  I  seen  in  this  forum.  The  first  chamber  I  used  Bricks,  the  next  I  used  white  gravel  and  the  last  filter  media  chamber  I  used  medium  coarse  sand.  Since  my  filter  is  under  my  tank  the  last  or  4th  chamber  is  where  I  placed  my  pump.

The  only  problem  with  the  filter  is  it  overflows  out  of  my  first  chamber  and  gravity  I  assume  is  supposed  to  pull  it  down  through  the  2nd  chamber  then  flow  up  thru  the  sand;  however,  alot  of  the  water  flows  over  the  2nd  partition  instead  of  being  pulled  down  thru  the  2nd  chamber.

I  rebulit  it  twice  thinking  the  gap  at  the  bottom  of  the  2nd  partition  wasn't  large  enough  the  first  time  making  the  gap  about  1  1/2"  to  2"  Gap.  It  works  better  but  it  still  has  alot  of  water  that  runs  over  instead  of  down  thru  the  media.

I  also  learned  that  you  get  what  you  pay  for.  Ipurchased  a  525  gph  powerhead  for  the  pump.  It  cost  me  about  $30  but  I  have  sent  it  back  to  the  manufacture  once  already  and  after  receiving  it  back  it  still  stops  pumping  at  any  time.

The  manufacture  is  Commodity  Axis......I  would  recommend  that  no  one  purchase  their  products.

I'm  not  sure....I  would  think  it  would  be  close  to  the  same  only  you  would  have  to  be  more  paticular  on  what  medias  to  use  to  keep  the  PH  at  optimum  levels.
