 Hi  Prakash,

What  is  the  room  temparature?  I  am  native  from  Orissa  and  the  summer  temaparature  is  in  the  range  of  40-45.  but  the  room  temperature  is  about  24  degree,  so  i  never  had  issue  with  tank  temparature.

 Regards,

Hey  Deepak,  Outside  max  temp  is  40  degrees  in  Pune  today.  Not  sure  of  room  temp,  let  me  use  the  same  thermometer  and  post  findings.  If  not  cooled  every  night,  my  tank  water  temperature  goes  upto  30  degrees  without  lights  and  upto  32  degrees  with  lighting!

Do  you  have  an  open  top  aquarium  that  is  keeping  your  tank  water  cool?

 Hi  Deepak  &  Prakash,

It  is  more  a  function  of  the  room  temperature  than  outside  temperature.

Since  at  Deepak's  place  room  temp  is  under  control  he  does  not  need  to  go  in  for  a  chiller...  In  Prakash's  and  my  case,  the  room  temp  is  also  high..

The  factors  affecting  room  temp  are  direct/indirect  sunlight,  location  of  the  room  in  the  house,  air  circulation  and  air  conditioning..  In  my  case,  there  is  no  AC  in  which  the  aquarium  is  kept  and  since  no  one  is  home  through  the  day,  there  is  little  air  circulation..

Therefore  I  need  to  ensure  that  I  have  a  fan  on  for  the  aquarium  which  keeps  air  circulating..  This  also  leads  to  evaporation  as  Prakash  suggested.  I  need  to  replace  about  2  liters  of  water  everyday.

 Cheers!

@Deepak,  I  checked  the  room  temp  with  the  aquarium  thermometer.  It  came  out  tobe  32  degrees.  When  I  put  the  thermometer  backin  the  aquarium,  the  temp  registered  was  29  degs  (3  degs  less  than  room  temp).

@sandeep,  I  use  a  fan  mounted  on  the  hood  to  cool  the  water  when  everyone  is  sleeping  Smile

Kapil,  Resize  in  a  way  that  width  is  less  than  800  pixels  and  height  is  less  than  600  pixels.  So  if  you  like  got  an  image  of  456  x601  pixels,  the  upload   would  still  fail.  So  resize  to  something  like  450  x  598  to  make  height  less  than  600  pix.

The  above  techniques  does  give  me  a  temperature  drop  between  3  and  7  degrees  depending  on  weather  conditions  and  humidity  levels..

After  this  fan,  water  temperature  stays  in  the  range  of  23-25  deg  while  the  room  temp  is  between  29  and  32  deg..

 cheers!

 Prakash,

I  had  a  closed  top  tank...  I  had  custom  build  Glass  cover,  But  my  room  temperature  used  to  be  b/w  26-30.  I  really  cant  believe  that,  the  pune  room  temp  goes  that  high.  other  option  is  to  create  a  water  fountain  effect  using  a  power  filter  so  the  water  cools  down  a  bit.

 Hi  Kapil,
 1.  Leave  your  tank  top  open.
 2.  If  you  have  a  power  filter,  extend  the  outlet  using  some  extra  pipe  and  position  the  outlet  about  4-5  inches  above  the  water  level.
So  the  water  drops  from  the  air  creating  a  fountain.

I  did  this  once  when  i  had  an  ammonia  spike  to  give  a  little  more  oxygen  to  my  fish..
This  will  bring  the  temparature  down  a  bit.  It's  the  same  technique  used  for  commercial  ice  production  (of  cource  with  little  more  technology)

 hope  this  help

 This  sounds  fun!

Just  one  more  question:  Will  this  take  care  of  aeration  requirements  of  the  water  as  well?  Asking  this  because  in  creating  fountain,  the  aerating  mechanism  of  power  filter  will  not  work.  Even  through  you  have  mentioned  it,  just  wanted  to  check..

Will  try  this  over  the  Sunday.
