The only things that could burn an Eheim 2217 would be "Heavy Voltage fluctuations", Running the filter "Dry" and sometimes the "Back pressure" or something clogging the impellor can have some effect but its mostly the impellor that gives away before the winding starts to burn.
As Swapnil said, most probably it could be due to running dry. Powerheads should be fully submerged as water takes up what ever head is generated in the coil. Another reason could be Voltage fluctuations so it might be better to try a voltage regulator/transformer to correct it.

hey guys thnax for your replies, I've ordered the nutrients Microsol B & Macro one from Aquadeep(Deepak). Hope to receive it by tomorrow. Well I've never run them dry nor have had clogging probs....just shear bad luck anyway i'll see what progress is made with the Ferts hope to get the 4ft tank soon then i'll also get the 2217.
