 Rather  than  a  rectangular  tank,  a  square  one  might  fit  better.  Say,  a  2ft  x  2ft  x  15  or  18  inches  l  x  b  x  h  tank.

Thanks  Rasik  for  the  update  !

Rasik,  i'm  searching  for  the  LFS  or  plant  nurseries  where  I  can  go  and  look  for  the  aquatic  plants,  if  they  are  available.....
I  asked  one  of  the  guys  for  plants  but  he  said  that  he  is  going  to  get  it  from  Chennai  in  train  which  he  thinks  is  going  to  cost  a  lot.

You  need  to  help  me  with  the  filter  thing.  I'm  new  to  these  power  filters  and  I  don't  know  about  the  manufacturers  that  which  one  is  better.  Please  help  me  out  with  this.

As  long  as  the  CO2  setup  is  concerned,  I'm  researching  more  on  it.  I  just  want  to  make  sure  that  I  don't  end  up  with  a  disaster  in  this  thing.

 Regards
 Ansh

 Himanshu,

Your  LFS  guy  is  pulling  your  leg  regarding  Chennai.  Try  liasoning  with  the  Delhi  or  Mumbai  aquarium  hobbyists.  They  should  be  able  to  help  yo  out  regarding  plants.

All  the  filters  you  have  named  are  top  end  filters.  Not  much  to  choose  between  them.  But  do  you  really  need  such  expensive  filters?

Planted  tank  is  not  rocket  science.  All  it  needs  is  Knowledge,  patience  and  most  importantly  persistent  dedication.

 Best  of  luck  Thumb Up

 Regards,

All  your  fish  except  angle  fish  are  not  suitable  for  planted  aquarium.  as  far  as  plants  are  concerned  u  may  get  it  for  free  or  at  very  low  cost  from  IAH  members  from  nearby  region.

Your  aquarium  should  be  large  enough  to  collect  fish  aquarium  in  your  home  number.  And  remember,  if  you  buy  young  fish  grow  they  will  take  a  large  space.  Besides  cleaning  the  aquarium  is  an  important  task,  so  finding  one  at  the  top,  supply  a  large  open  your  purpose.  Look  at  your  aquarium  will  fit  you  have  chosen  your  aquarium  area  of  ??comfort.  Now,  if  you  are  looking  for  accessories,  you  need  a  heater  to  maintain  water  temperature,  a  filter  to  keep  the  water  clean  and  clear  and  ventilation  devices,  will  allow  the  oxygen  content  of  the  water.  You  can  also  buy  other  items  such  as  posters,  background,  fresh  plants,  lights,  etc.

@  Sudhant  -  Thanks  for  replying  !  probably  u  r  the  1st  one  who  seems  to  be  closer  to  my  city.  Can  u  help  me  out  with  the  filter  and  plants  for  my  tank  ?  Go  thru  the  thread  and  u  will  get  to  know  more  about  my  requirements  and  limitations  to  get  them.  Talking  about  the  angel  fish  in  the  tank,  I've  heard  that  silver  dollar  is  not  the  right  fish  for  a  planted  tank  .

@  arlenpalmer  -  Thanks  for  your  reply  !  I'm  quite  aware  of  the  equipments  needed  to  start  with  a  tank.  I've  been  keeping  a  tank  for  more  than  1.5  yrs.

 Regards

 Himanshu,
A  couple  of  suggestions  as  a  friend,  Assuming  you  are  new  to  Forums...

 1)  Never  post  a  query  addressed  to  a  single  individual.  It  will  foreclose  your  options  of  getting  replies  from  other  members  who  have  as  much  or  more  knowledge  on  the  matter.
 2)  Knowledge  sharing  is  better  on  open  forums  than  pm's.  If  the  suggestions  has  some  errors,  in  a  open  forum  those  will  get  rectified  by  other  members.
 3)  Never  depend  on  somebody  when  starting  a  project.  It  has  to  be  you  and  only  you!  Otherwise  it  will  give  you  a  escape  route  when  things  go  wrong.  You  can  always  blame  the  guy  who  you  depended  on  Chuckle

 Now  to  the  point,
Cheaper  power  filter  options  would  be  Dolphin,  Boyu  etc.  Go  ahead  already  and  buy  one  from  your  initial  choice  if  you  can  do  so.  You  can  always  DIY  somethings  into  the  filter,  since  you  have  suggested  you  have  aptitude  for  DIY  stuff.  Anyways  the  filter  in  your  planted  tank  will  be  used  primarily  for  water  circulation  and  a  bit  of  mechanical  filtration.  The  fish  density  in  a  planted  tank  must  be  minimum!

Regarding  online  shops  a  per  your  enquiry  in  the  private  message,  I  really  have  no  Idea  since  I  have  never  purchased  anything  online.

 Regards,

+  100%  in  agreement  with  you  man!

 Ansh,

Let  me  atleast  answer  your  sMall  plant  call  from  Chennai.
Normally  the  plants  can  be  bought  through  couriers.
Check  this  link  and  links  around  it  for  the  prices,  and  you  can  predict  and  bargain  accordingly.
 http://www.dtdc.in/subpages/products/DTDClite.html

In  case  you  knew  it,  ignore  and  tell  the  LFS  guy  to  do  it  this  way.

As  Nayak  says,  it  ll  happen  slowly,  so  good  luck.  Thumb Up

 Cheers!

Just  by  a  good  filter  as  suggested  by  Rasik...try  for  following   DIY....

Filter  head(A)  you  take  out  from  the  total  filter,  attach  that  with  any  side  of  your  tank...take  a  pipe(C)  and  attach  one  end  with  filter  output  and  another  end   in  a  2-3ltr  bottle  or  plastic  box(B).  Take  another  pipe  (D)  attach  one  end  with  (B)  other  end  inside  the  tank  water.  Different  layers  can  be  used  inside(B)  for  better  filtration  as  given  earlier.

Note:  (A)  need  to  attach  other  than  front  glass(plants  will  cover  the  head),  (B)  need  to  set  out  of  the  tank  and  above  the  water  level,  (D)  output  pipe   can  be  kept  above  the  water  level   or  inside  water,  if  CO2  given  then  need  to  keep  it  inside  water.  Can  use  M-seal  for  attachment.  Right  side  of  the  dotted  line  is  DIY  part.

Expert  comment  always  welcome  for  better  usageā€¦

If  space  problem  try  to  keep  it  on  a  solid  tank  cover....

@  Rasik  -  Thanks  for  your  reply  !  My  motto  of  sending  you  a  pm  was  just  to  bring  it  to  your  notice  as  u  might  not  check  all  the  posts  by  different  members,  and  in  this  case  it  would  have  been  me.  The  reason  I  was  expecting  your  reply  was  only  because  u  were  helping  me  out  daily  with  this  situation.  I  know  all  the  members  will  reply  and  I  might  have  received  more  suggestions  but  I  didnt  received  the  kind  of  response  I  expected,  because  u  were  acknowleding  every  query  of  mine,  so  I  relied  on  u.  Talking  about  being  dependent  and  being  responsible  for  my  project,  in  any  case  I  will  be  responsible  for  what  I  do  ,  because  u  guys  are  going  to  give  me  suggestions  ,  execution  part  is  mine.

@  Saikumar  -  Thanks  for  your  reply  and  the  link  !

@  ParthaPratim22  -  I  really  appreciate  your  efforts  and  thanks  for  the  diagram  !

Always  glad  to  be  of  help  Very Happy

Did  you  buy  the  filter?  Is  your  substrate  ready?  Do  try  and  post  some  pictures,  using  your  cell  camera  if  necessary.
This  will  help  you  get  more  responses,  when  people  realize  you  are  a  hands  on  person.
