Hi,
My pressurised co2 set up has been up and running for a week now. about 1-2 bubbles per second during the day diffused through a red sea co2 reactor. (this is extremely effective I think as I can see hardly any co2 bubbles in the aquarium water.)
MY tank size is 48 inch X 21 X 21. Light is 36 watt X 4 + 144 watt, PLL. All are 6500 K.
Dosing is EI method, though I havent started adding phosphates yet.
My questions:
1) I see pearling only after 7 hours of lighting? Is this ok or should i be seeing pearling much earlier?
2) PLant growth is yet to take off after switch to pressurised co2. Growth is only slightly better then before. Am I doing anything wrong or should I wait longer for the results to come in?
3) My HC Cuba is just sitting there. It is not melting, but it is not growing either. Almost 75% is covered with brown algae. What can I do to get it to grow?
4) There is some kind of green spot algae on the elaves of most stem plants (in the top of the tank where there is more light). Is this bad? How do I fix this?
5) My brown algae has reduced, but is yet to go away fully? COuld light be the limiting factor? Do I need to add more light? (Filtration is through Eheim 2217 (installed 2 weeks ago.) and the reactor also helps circulation (rated speed is 50 gallons per hour)
thanks |

Dosing:
3/4 th of a teaspoon of k2so4 3 times a week
POtassium Nitrate 3/4 th of a teaspoon 3 times a week
No phosphate addition yet
Microsol B - 10 ml every day after light off.
WC - 60% every week

I think its a gradual process...
I have gone pressurised almost 1 month back....the growth is picking up now, but I think it will take atleast 2 more months for my plants to get accustomed to the new settings...
Is your set up established or is it a newly done tank? |

Anand,
I think your macros dosing is not enough.
My tank dimensions and lighting was exactly as yours and this is what I used to dose.
3/4th Tsp of Kno3,1/4th Tsp of K2So4,and about 3/16th Tsp of kh2Po4 on alternate days starting on a sunday after water change.
One cap full (of 500 ml pepsi bottle) of Microsol- B on alternate days starting on monday.
Later, on advise of venkat(vkv) I started to dose Microsol-B every day.
Plant growth and health was good except in the areas where the light was not enough but I didnt have algae problems whatsoever. |

It is an established tank that has been running for over 3 months in its current form...
Will appreciate answers for the specific questions please...
thanks

I am sorry. I thought I read that you dose the macros once a week.
Sorry about that. |

Magnessium phosphate is better to be avoided. Correct me if I am wrong. |

i think mr.madan sir suggested somewhere in a post to dose 1 ml of microsol per day ....
and it seems you are dosing 10 ml ...any drastic effects or wastage of the dosage? |

Natbox...I think that was for a low tech set up....in another post, madan has also mentioned that he goes up to 15 ml, if I remember correctly...
And the EI method recommends 1/4 teaspoon...
So far, i have not seen any adverse effects attibutable to micros...on the contrary I increased dosage recently after seeing symptoms of some deficiencies..
thanks

I have a feeling the light is on the lesser side for cuba. It comes to approx 2 watts/gallon and cuba atleast in the initial stages needs 3.5w/g in my experience.
I had bought cuba and tried growing it in a plaxtic box first before setting a tank. Used an enriched substrate and kept it under strong light. Even then it was slow to throw runners and now about 95% of the box is filled from the initial 25%. But mine too has some brown algae on it in some spots. |

Pree,
Had you grown the Cuba emersed (without water) or submerged (plastic box filled with water)?
How much time did it take to go from 25% to 95%....would love to see some pics, if possible?
I may be low on light, but because I have pressurised Co2 and ample nutrients, I guess I can expect to see some growth, atleast....?
thanks
