 Hi,

I  am  trying  to  decide  if  I  should  let  my  pressurised  Co2  set  up  run  through  the  night...or  do  I  shut  it  off  (using  the  solenoid  valve)?

The  following  article  makes  me  inclined  to  leave  it  running  during  the  night...

 http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/night.html

 what  is  the  IAH  consensus?

 Run  it,

The  pH  fluctuation  due  to  shutting  it  is  more  dangerous.

 Nayak.

 Do  not  fiddle.
 Let  it  run  24/7.
 You  will  have  no  problem.
and  your  regulator  will  also  last  a  lifetime.

Just  to  be  on  a  safer  side,  can  we  use  air  pump  along  with  co2  to  avoid  co2  built  up  beyond  danger  level  at  night?

Anand  -  Thank  You  for  starting  this  thread,  i  used  to  shut  off  CO2  at  night,  with  the  details  in  the  article  link  and  confirmation  from  Nayak  &  Trevor  i  can  confidently  run  C02  24/7.....Thanks  for  the  Input  Guys.

One  quick  question  though,  will  this  affect  Amano  Shrimps  in  any  way  if  i  keep  CO2  running  24/7?

In  my  setup  CO2  starts  an  hour  and  a  half  before  lights  come  on  and  shuts  off  one  hours  before  lights  go  off.

 Cheers

Discharge  and  diffuse  the  right  amount  of  Co2  suitable  for  your  planted  aquarium.
Better  have  a  low  fish  load.
You  can  use  an  airpump  at  night.  Its  like  eating  more  and  then  vomiting.  Smile

Shrimps  will  be  the  first  to  die  in  case  of  a  goof  up.  Use  extreme  caution  with  Co2  and  shrimps.  A  shrimp  only  tank  with  mosses  etc  is  ideally  without  Co2.

Vincent,  You  have  a  real  high  tech  planted  tank.  Smile

 Vince,

I  am  not  sure  if  getting  co2  on  1.5  hours  before  lights  on  pumps  in  enough   co2  into  the  water  column  in  order  to  enable  plants  to  take  off  like  a  rocket  as  soon  as  lights  come  on....I  am  no  expert,  but  this  is  just  my  opinion...

What  is  the  effect  or  how  much  is  the  effect  on  Ph  in  this  case?

 Thanks,

 Hi,

Like  Trevor  says  better  have  a  low  fish  load  in  your  planted  tank.  The  sure  fire  method  to  know  that  something  is  amiss  is  when  you  see  your  fishes  gasping  for  breath  early  in  the  morning.

Even  then  I  suggest  you  reduce  the  fish  load,  But  in  unavoidable  circumstance  use  aerator.

 Seetharam,

Invertebrates  and  fluctuations  are  disastrous.  Try  to  have  shrimps  in  as  much  stable  environment  as  possible.  Even  dosing  K2SO4  can  wipe  them  out.  My  experience.  Follow  Trevor's  advice.

 Regards,
 Nayak.

Thanks  Trevor,  I  have  the  Amano  shrimps  in  a  Heavily  Planted  Tank  (  36*18*18  )  along  with  10  Cardinals,  12  Harlequins  and  2  Flying  Foxes.

Does  it  make  any  difference  that  the  tank  is  heavily  planted  and  i  run  CO2  24/7?

In  one  of  Tom  Barr's  posting  he  suggests  to  switch  on  CO2  half  an  hour  before  the  lights  come  on  and  switch  off  one  hour  before  the  lights  come  off.  It  works  for  me  and  i  save  on  CO2  not  on  the  cost  but  it  takes  a  week  or  more  to  get  the  cylinders  refilled  and  i  don't  have  a  spare  one.

Also  i  read  in  PFK  that  Amano  shuts  off  CO2  at  night.

 Cheers

 Vince
