 'lo  there  people!

I  saw  this  lone  Puntius  sp.  at  my  friendly  neighbourhood  fish  shop  and  knowing  my  fancy  for  the  'lesser  liked'  fishes,  he  decided  to  give  it  to  me.  Well  bless  him.  Can  anyone  ID  it?  Looks  like  a  P.  mahecola  but  im  not  able  to  differenciate  it  from  the  P.  filamentosus.

Any  information  on  this  species  would  be  great...

puntiusfrom  the  Puntius  Filamentosus  group.  there  are  two  types,  Mahecola  and  assimilis  and  you  can  tell  from  the  mouth.

Either  way,  they  can  grow  to  around  4+inches  and  are  active  fish  that  need  a  lot  of  swimming  space  and  a  small  school  of  their  own  kind.  They  are  very  hardy  and  greedy  too

Thanks  for  the  info.  Will  this  fish  pick  on  moss?  I'm  planning  to  add  Killies  as  tank  mates.  Will  that  be  an  issue?

yes  they  will  pick  on  moss  and  will  eat  anything.  i  am  sure  your  fish  will  start  eating  once  it  settles  down.  please  try  and  keep  them  in  a  small  shoal.
