 Hi  to  everyone,

I  am  going  to  change  my  home  soon  just  after  Nov.  I  will  get  a   room  there  for  my  own  fish  room.  It's  about  8  feet  x  16  feet.  I  have  some  questions  ,  can  you  pls  help  me?

**  What  will  be  the  drainage  system?
**  What  type  of  material  i  should  use?
**  This  room  will  be  only  for  Discus  so  i  will  have  to  do  WC  daily  so  what  will  be  the  water  storage  system?
**  In  our  country  Gov.  water  supply  is  not  good  so  should  i  use  R/O  filter?
 **What  about  the  lighting?
**  At  beginning  i  want  to  start  with  6  tanks  so,  What  should  be  the  background  of  tanks?
**  The  racks  will  have  two  rows  and  two  columns  so  there  will  be  4  tanks  in  a  rack.  All  the  tanks  dimension  will  be  3feet  x1.5feet  x2feet.

These  are  my  questions  and  please, please  help  me  because  i  really  need  help  on  this.

I  have  already  read  some  posts  about  DIY  fish  room.  Those  help  me  to  get  some  idea.  But  i  need  some  suggestions  form  you  all.

 Thanks  in  advance,
 PUNNA

 Hi  Punna,

 Welcome  to  IAH.

 1.  Drainage  -  Can  be  a  simple  PVC  drain  running  into  your  garden.  Please  have  t-joints  at  convenient  locations  (preferably  next  to  each  rack)  on  the  floor  to  drain  water  into.  These  t-joints  can  be  interconnected  at  the  run  into  a  main  pipe  draining  water  into  your  garden.

 2.  Material  -  PVC  for  the  drainage,  MS  L-angles  for  your  racks  (preferably  powder-coated).

 3.  Definitely  RO.  Are  you  planning  on  feeding  BHM,  if  yes,  then  you  will  need  to  change  water  after  every  feeding.  If  you  are  planning  on  dry  feed  only,  then  WC  every  2-3  days  should  do  fine.

 4.  Lighting  -  General  lighting  for  the  room  should  do  if  you  are  planning  on  only  discus.  They  dislike  bright  lights.

 5.  Background  -  The  BG  and  the  bottom  can  be  painted  black  or  blue  to  reduce  glare  and  also  avoid  reflection.

 6.  A  height  of  1.5'  should  be  enough  if  you  are  planning  for  bare-bottom  tanks.

 thanx  Suraj  da,

can  you  tell  how  to  use  RO  water  and  what  will  be  the  ratio  of  RO  &  tap  water?

what  should  i  use  as  water  storage-  general  plastic  water  tanks  (roof  tank)  or  glass  tanks  (because  i  am  thinking  about  the  water  temp).  or  simple  plastic  drums?

What  kind  of  air  pump  should  I  muse-  normal  air  pumps  or  air  blowers?

 regards

 Hi  Shiva  Da,

Sorry  for  late  reply.  My  net  connection  was  gone  for  few  days.  At  this  moment  i  want  to  raise  them  but  the  ultimate  goal  is  breeding  them.  At  this  moment  my  tanks  are  at  my  room.  And  people  come  to  this  room  frequently.  And  i  feel  that  they  got  scared  of  that.  Because  the  stress  bars  come  out.  This  also  a  reason  to  give  them  a  separate  room.

Thanks  Shiva  Da.  Its  great  to  get  some  advice  from  you.  Waiting  for  it.....

 Punna  ,

 1)  At  this  stage  i  will  advice  you  to  go  with  only  4  tanks  of  size  48  x  18  x18  and  try  to  grow  good  discus  .
 2)  keep  all  thinks  simple  ,  follow  the  same  system  what  you  are  following  at  present  .
 3)  Try  to  get   small  discus  from  good  source  and  maintain  good  adult  stock  .  one  day  you  will  come  across  some  pairs  from  these  discus  .
4)Once  you  get  the  pairs  ,  try  to  breed  them  and  raise  them  to  a  saleble  size  .
 5)  Once  you  get  the  sucess  then  you  can  expand  your  set  up  .
 6)  When  you  grow  discus  from  2  inch  to  Adult  one  ,  you  will  experience  various  stages  of  Discus  .  This  will  give  you  time  to  learn  ad  increase  your  knowledge  on  Discus  .

So  don't  rush  up  things  ,  go  slow  ,  learn  and  then  move  forward  ,  you  will  not  fail  in  this  hobby  .

 Thanks

 Dear  Shiva  Sir,
Thanks  for  your  advice.  I  will  do  as  you  said.  If  i  can  manage  to  import  breeding  pair  from  Thailand  or  Malaysia  or  India  Then  can  i  go  for  breeding  will  this  be  a  good  option?  or  Import  some  2inch  discus  from  those  countries  and  grow  them  to  adult  size  and  let  them  pair  of.

 Waiting  for  your  reply.  Punna
