My  6  footer  is  American  cichlid  setup.   Now  I  want  to  convert  my  2'  aquarium  into  Aftican  cichlid  tank.   I  understand  that  African  Cichlid  needs  high  pH.   Can  I  use  coral  as  decoration  to  increase  pH  level?

I  know  buying  dead  coral  is  total  No  No.   But  I  bought  these  corals  two  years  ago  and  at  that  time  I  did  not  know  that  as  a  hobbyist  I  should  not  had  done  this.   Some  body  at  IAH  pointed  out  to  me  the  cruel  way  by  which  these  dead  corals  come  to  market  for  sale.   I  have  totally  stopped  buying  dead  coral.   Thanks  to  IAH

Don't  use  coral...  Use  aragonite  sand...it  will  buffer  up  the  pH...

 Do  not  buy  coral.
You  are  contributing  to  the  destruction  of  the  reefs  if  you  do  so.  The  coral  you  get  will  be  collected  alive  and  dried  out  and  sold.

It  depends  on  what  type  of  africans.  If  it  is  malawians,  one  pair  is  just  as  bad  since  only  one  will  survive.  Malawians  need  to  be  overstocked  to  diffuse  aggression.
Do  you  know  the  GH  and  PH  of  your  current  tap  water  ?  If  not  please  find  that  out  first.  You  get  sand  with  crushed  shells  that  can  help  btw.  Do  not  use  coral  for  all  of  the  above  mentioned  reasons.
