with  my  little  knowledge  i  see  it  in  fresh  water  puddles  ,lakes  etc  generally  in  ponds  which  have  green  water  you  have  to  catch  it  in  early  morning  with  cloth  nets  .it  will  be  red  in  colour  and  one  should  have  sharp  eyes  to  spot  it

I  haven't  done  collection  myself, but  based  on  what  i  have  heard  from  a  breeder,he  says  that  dawn  and  sunset  are  best  times  to  catch  them, but  preferably  dawn.  Daphnia  will  look  like  specs  of  dust  moving  about  in  the  water.  Have  you  seen  newly  hatched  brine  shrimp?  daphnia  should  be  somewhere  around  those  in  size.

They  are  easier  caught  early  morning  because  they  come  up  to  the  surface  for  oxygen.
