I was thinking of getting a cemented rectangular sink for use as pond, I have also seen people using a custom made terracotta tank. Please advice.

Here comes the pond maniac...

Madan san... couple of other things I missed out to mention in my earlier mail as pointed out by you.

1. Size. I am looking for around 6 feet length/diameter one.
2. Should I go for a substrate or not.
3. Should I go for water/terrarium plants or not.
4. Maintenance: Here comes the big back burner, I am the only coolie at hoime who can take all the loads....so please suggest practical and feasible one.
5. Pond suitable Fish that are adorable from top viewing.
6. I have a shaded terrace with partial sunlight, can I place the pond directly on the terrace, any precautions to be taken here.
7. Other option is to place the pond in the open garden area, where it is exposed to the elements.
8. We have cats that frequent the garden, crows have made the big raintree in front of our house as their nest, that come and explore for worms and pests in the garden.
9. Anything important I missed here please...

thanks again...

2. On terrace yes, Garden - Pots
3. yes around the pond
4. Install a pump, water the garden from the pond and replenish the pond. On terrace by Gravity.
6. If cement pond, build one on the terrace. Terracotta etc., check the slope of the terrace.
Garden, look for Fiber glass containers that can be partially buried in the garden,
Pond liner- Contact Rufus/Niranjan.

All others complete a pond in the garden.

EDIT:
Garden Pond - Go for depth, 5 feet if you don't want Green water, in Tropics this is the minimum you need to avoid green water. 1/3 shade throughout the day is a must, locate pond accordingly.

???I did'nt quite get this last sentence though...

Thanks for that informative and practical tips.

What's your take on the cats, crows! do they bother the pond inhabitants like fish, plants etc. or did you already hint me on this by suggesting deeper pond or something?

and whats your choice of fish for pond?

"Trevor - The one stop solution for all Aquaria needs and requirements"

@Madan:
"Deeper pond - no green water in the tropics. Minimum depth 5 feet"

Agree with your 11th commandment on stone..:-)

This is a fun way to decorate the shore of a small natural pond. This old boat is re purposed as a planter. A fun way to add some character to the pond. Also installing a small outdoor pond fountain kit helps aerate and also makes it extra pretty!

This is a fun way to decorate the shore of a small natural pond. This old boat is re purposed as a planter. A fun way to add some character to the pond. Also installing a small outdoor pond fountain kit helps aerate and also makes it extra pretty, without spending much money!!small outdoor pond fountain kit

This pond owner took a small boat and repurposed it as an ornamental decoration and planter for his outdoor pond area. There are so many things you can use to repurpose. Using anything that is ornamental and will hold water. All you need is a pump to circulate the water.

This is a hand built backyard pond and waterfall made with large rocks. This customer placed 4 large color changing lights under the water to highlight the rock and waterfall features.Large Color Changing LED Lights

Two ways to anchor your floating Fountain

The small floating pond fountain can be anchored to the bottom of the pond or tied off to the shore if your pond is smaller in size. To anchor you will need heavy duty nylon rope, 1/8” – 1/4” thick. To anchor to the bottom of the pond, tie the ropes to cement blocks and drop blocks in opposite directions of each other. Tie other end of ropes to the float or the handle of the pump. This method will require entering the pond with a boat or canoe. If using the shoreline method, tie the ropes to the float and tie off one rope to one side of the shore and the other to the other side. Heavy duty mobile home anchors or dog tie stakes work well for this. Put fountain in water, be very careful not to get mud into the pump. The other rope can now be walked over to the other side of the pond and connected to the stake. This method works well in smaller ponds and you can make a pulley system. Your fountain may look different than the illustration but the anchoring set-up is still the same method.Small floating pond fountain

Your backyard pond area should reflect your lifestyle. It’s not just some place to store the outdoor equipment and bicycles. It is a place to go to relax with the family and friends and enjoy. Choose simple backyard projects that will change your outdoor space and pond area into your family’s fun hangout spot. Fresh cut grass, colorful flowers or other plants, rocks and decorative outdoor items are great way to increase your outdoor environment. For home owners that have ponds on their property, should maybe consider a pond fountain for a small pond. Not only will it beautify the area but increase the value of your property. Add natural decorative accents. Using natural materials to add to your space. Swings made of wood and flat stone pathways can set a whimsical mood for the rest of your design ideas. Opt for pest and rot resistant wood for easy maintenance.
Add bird friendly decorations. Birds are a great way to add nature in your space so add bird feeders and bird baths.pond fountain for a small pond
