 Hi  Guys,

Its  been  a  while  since  the  idea  of  housing  an  Arowana  popped  into  my  head  and  i  have  finally  taken  the  plunge  and  picked  one  up  (pics  to  follow).  Its  currently  been  accommodated  in  40"*18*12  tank  and  for  the  time  being,  devoid  of  any  substrate  or  rocks.

I  needed  advice  regarding  the  layout  of  the  tank  and  what  kind  of  substrate  to  be  used.  Can  i  go  in  for  a  natural  look  considering  its  an  Arowana.  Its  a  juvi  btw  (4-5")  and  have  no  plans  on  including  any  tank  mates  (although  suggestions  on  this  front  would  also  be  welcome  ).

So  without  further  ado,  ┬áplease  fire  away  Smile

Barebottom  is  prefered  but  have  kept  my  jardini  with  normal  river  gravel  before.  Just  ensure  you  have  a  tight  lid  for  the  tank.

 Good  luck!

 Cheers,
 Prem

But  doesn't  a  BB  tank  instigate  the  dreaded  'drop  eye'  ?

Not  sure  if  thats  the  reason  but  I  have  seen  tanks  which  has  a  table  tennis  ball  floating  inorder  to  avoid  drop  eye.  But  If  you  ask  me  I'd  go  for  a  tank  with  river  gravel.

Just  keep  it  bare  bottom  it'll  be  easier  to  maintain  in  the  long  run,  decorate  with  driftwood  and  some  potted  plants,  make  it  a  natural  look.  the  driftwood  and  a  few  large  stones  on  the  bottom  will  take  care  of  the  drop  eye.

Guess  need  to  undertake  a  Driftwood  collection  trip  asap  as  buying  driftwood  from  LFS's  here  equates  to  burning  a  considerably  big  sized  hole  in  one's  pocket.

As  far  as  'potted'  plants  go,  can  you  please  elaborate  further  as  I  am  not  quite  sure  what  that  is  in  tank  terminology

buy  a  five  buck  terracotta  pot  from  any  plant  nursery  in  your  neighborhood,  fill  in  river  sand,  stick  in  an  amazon  or  any  hardy  plant  and  voila  you  have  a  potted  plant.  keep  in  mind  you'll  need  some  lighting  if  you  plan  to  have  a  plant.
