I have set up a new tank in my shop. Its a low tech moss, crypt tank. I am having a feeling that the amount of laterite used will be insufficient. So, instead of re doing the substrate, I was thinking of using some root tabs for the heavy root feeder crypts. Now, as a habit, I was reading the effects of root tabs before using the same in my tank. BTW I have never used root tabs before in any of my tanks. While reading, I came across few experiences of having an algae attack in tanks just after using root tabs. Would like to know more about your experiences about the same.

Would depend more on the depth of the substrate. The shallower it is and the less deep you place the root tabs the faster the fertz would leech into the water column and the higher the risk of an algae bloom. I have tried out ferka capsules on a substrate that was about 3 inches thick and placed the capsules 2inches deep. No algal bloom and excellent addition for the plants.
