 Year  One.

It’s  been  one  year  since  I  set  up  a  reef  tank  and  I  think  I’m  finally  ready  to  show  it  to  the  world  and  share  my  experiences  with  fellow  hobbyists.  It’s  been  a  year  of  up’s  and  down’s  and  the  tank  is  by  no  means  perfect  but  it  has  been  tremendously  fulfilling,  challenging  and  educational.  I’ve  been  keeping  fish  since  childhood  but  a  year  in  marine  has  taught  me  more  than  a  lifetime.   The  salty  side  is  full  of  surprises  and  the  surprises  never  end.  I’ve  had  success  (with  corals)  and  failures  (with  fish)  and  battles  (with  marine  ich).  I  made  beginner  mistakes  and  eventually  corrected  them  and  I’m  still  learning.  My  tank  isn’t  the  best  and  I’m  not  an  expert  by  any  means  but  currently  the  tank  is  healthy  and  disease  free.  I  don’t  believe  in  still  pictures  since  they  never  really  tell  the  true  story  so  I’ve  put  my  money  where  my  mouth  is  and  posted  a  video  of  my  tank  (besides  I’m  a  lousy  photographer  and  don’t   own  a  camera).  Special  shoutout  to  my  boys  from  Bombay  –Weylin  (GatorX)  and  Ajay  (Dashrath).  They’v  e  valiantly  accompanied  me  on  this  roller  coaster  ride  and  patiently  endured  every  mood  of  mine.   Thanks  boys.  Many  wads  of  cash  and  many  losses  and  lessons  later  I  present  to  you  my  reef  tank.

 Nice  tank!

Get  rid  of  the  bio  balls  as  your  tank  is  already  overstocked  it  will  create  issues  later.

Also  i  feel  the  water  current  is  a  little  too  much  try  to  control  it!

Get  a  clown  and  u  would  love  to  see  it  play  with  the  animone!

Nice  Tank.  The  elegance  coral  looks  great.  You  might  have  a  problem  with  the  sailfin  tang  and  the  koran  angel  as  they  grow  in  terms  of  space  and  increased  bioload.

 Thanks  guys.

mudjawd:  Yes  there  is  a  seahorse  in  the  sump.

ApurvaP:  I'm  aware  that  bio  balls  can  be  a  nitrate  factory  but  it's  been  a  while  now  and  no  harm  has  been  done.  But  i'm  keeping  a  close  eye.

Gremlin:  You're  right,  it's  a  juvi  koran.  I  know  they're  not  reef  safe  but  i'm  taking  a  chance.

asak:  The  koran  is  really  small  as  of  now.  Both  will  be  disposed  when  they  outgrow/reach  maximum  size  for  the  tank.

 @Sid

Sea  Horse  in  the  SUMP  !!  Come  on  Bro  you  can  give  it  a  better  life  Smile   What  are  you  feeding  it  bro  ?

Neat  tank,  are  u  having  a  doubble  sided  view  for  this  tank,  if  not  you  could  do  with  a  black  background.  will  give  a  nice  depth  to  the  tank  and  enhance  the  colours  too.

 Warm  Regards

 thanks  bettaji-  it's  4  1/2  x  2  x  1

Nirav  -  the  seahorse  is  in  the  fuge  part  of  the  sump  where  it's  doing  great.  There's  too  much  flow  and  food  competition  in  the  main  tank  for  it  to  thrive.  Initially  I  fed  it  daphnia  but  now  it's  eating  live  bloodworms.  I  must  say  though  they  have  to  be  the  slowest  eaters  in  the  animal  kingdom.  The  tank  is  a  room  divider  so  I  can't  block  the  background  but  I  agree  about  the  weak  colors.  It  looks  great  at  night  but  I  had  to  take  the  video  at  noon  since  that's  When  the  corals  open  fully.

Thanks  Krishna  but  it's  not  hard  to  maintain  at  all

Very  nice,  very  clean.  Good  choice  of  fish,  hope  the  angel  behaves!  Love  the  chromis.

Sump  looks  sweet,  with  the  inverts  and  sea  horse.  Would  be  careful  about  the  live  bloodworms  though,  chances  of  introducing  bacterial  infections.

 Good  job!!
