 Hi  guys..

Just  about  finished  my  DIY  inline  reactor..  have  to  say  that  PVC  Cement  smelt  super  Toxic!  not  too  sure  about  M  seal  either..

Have  put  little  balls  of  M  seal  on  the  Ping  Pong  balls  which  i'll  put  in  the  reactor  to  create  more  turbulence  (just  felt  they  were  too  smooth  and  wouldnt  move  too  much  )

So  are  both  these  Toxic?  I'm  soaking  the  reactor  in  a  bucket  right  now  trying  to  get  that  PVC  smell  out..

 Thanks!

 Hi,

You  can  check  the  ph  level  of  the  water  in  which  you  have  dipped  the  reactor  setup.

Can  you  please  post  the  pics?

 Gautam,

Epoxies  and  PVC  are  by  nature  toxic  and  non  bio-degradable.

PVC  cement  on  the  other  hand  is  harmless  ,  its  used  by  plumbers  all  the  time  and  is  inert  to  water.

Epoxy  sealants  like  MSeal  are  a  different  matter.  While  MSeal  is  hydrophobic  (repels  water)  it  does  oxidise  in  contact  with  air  over  a  period  of  time.

I  would  not  worry  abt  the  PVC  cement  but  stay  away  from  MSeal.

I've  used  m-seal  before  without  any  problems,  i  even  seen  it  used  on  reef  tanks  without  affecting  any  of  the  sensitive  invertebrates..

I  used  both  for  my  DIY  canister  filter.   Once  they  harden  up,  they  become  inert.

Be  quick  and  firm  when  you  are  using  the  cement,  it  dries(more  correctly,  it  reacts)  up  pretty  soon  when  applied  on  PVC.

 Goodluck!  Thumb Up

 Hi  Gautam

could'nt  you  use  bio  balls  (  which  are  made  for  tanks  )  instead  of  ping  pong  balls!

how  would  ceramic  rings  work  in  place  of  bioballs?   they  are  smaller  and  would  have  more  place  to  spin  around  creating  more  turbulence.   and  even  the  flow  over  them  would  be  turbulent.
