Currently  9  gallons  approx.  Might  upgrade  to  not  more  than  15  gallons.
So  can  you  guys  tell  me  approx.  watt  requirements  for  15gallon  heater???

And  please  tell  me  the  power  consumption  in  units  if  the  heater  is  on  24x7  for  temp  25-28  celcius  (75-80  F)???  Please  guys,  this  will  be  the  first  winter  for  my  2  angels  and  1  rainbow  shark.

Currently  my  monthly  bill  is  around  200  units.

Firstly,  how  low  does  the  temperature  dip  at  your  place?

In  most  of  the  places  in  India,  we  dont  need  heaters.

WEll  it  can  dip  once  or  twice  to  4  deg  C  minimum...usually  the  winter  minimum  is  between  10-13  C.  Highest  normal  is  25-26  C.
Madhya  pradesh  region  (ujjain,  indore,  bhopal).

 Hi,

A  100  watt  heater  over  a  24  hour  period  will  consume  2.4  KwH  units,  which  are  the  units  that  you  will  be  billed.  Over  a  30  day  period  that  will  be  72  units.  Obviously  the  heater  will  have  its  own  thermostat  and  will  not  run  24X7  but  only  when  the  temp  falls  below  whatever  level  you  have  set  it  to.  Thumb Up
And  as  random  said  above,  at  Indore  i  do  not  think  a  heater  will  be  required.

I  am  willing  to  take  the  risk  of  not  putting  heater.
And  thanks  for  the  reply.  I  guess  I  can  obviously  never  know  the  billed  units  unless  someone  experienced  comes  from  my  area;  because  "as  the  water  temp  dips"  then  the  heater  will  start  workin  again".  (I  don't  have  faith  in  asking  LFS;  for  a  sale  they  might  "distort  the  truth"  lol)

But  if  in  case  the  water  is  colder  or  anything,  what  reactions/behaviour  will  the  fish  put  on  to  show  that  they  are  uncomfortble/need  warmer  water???  How  to  know??

(once  again  I  have  2  angels,  1  rainbow  shark,  1  pleco)

i  suggest  u  to  go  for  low  temp  fish  rather  than  wasting  electricity, your  power  bills  will  go  sky  rocketing  if  u  use  heater, and  u  will  be  fed  up  of  the  hobby

Your  fishes  can  do  well  with  temperature  range  between  26-30  degrees,  so  heater  is  not  really  required  for  most  part  of  the  year.
If  you  are  having  really  chilly  winters  in  your  area,  you  can  add  one  150W  heater  if  you  want.
Don't  buy  any  cheap  chinese-make  heaters  as  they  have  faulty  thermostat  which  donot  cut-off  at  set  temperature.
Go  for  good  brand  like  Jager  or  Rena.
