I  have  finally  done  away  with  my  closed  box  hood  and  got  a  new  lighting  for  the  tank  with  good  cooling  fans  "https://picasaweb.google.com/103258552490211424435/Jun42011?authkey=Gv1sRgCMvsgfyrubmvWw#5639181504841478642"  "https://picasaweb.google.com/103258552490211424435/Jun42011?authkey=Gv1sRgCMvsgfyrubmvWw#5639181614417010642".  But  still  facing  the  problem  with  temperature  it  does  not  seem  to  drop.  The  lighting  set  has  1  mh  and  2  t5  lights.  Either  way  with  the  fans  if  it  runs  with  the  lights  on  or  hours  together  with  the  lights  off  the  temperature  does  not  go  down.  Two  days  back  with  the  a/c  on  in  the  night  it  came  down  to  27  with  no  fans  on  now  it  is  31  with  lights  and  fan  running.

 How  do  i  resolve  this.

 Thanks,

 Ryel

Hi  Ryle  ...its  a  nice  setup.  How  much  u  spent  on  this  and  whats  the  per  gallon  watt...Also  I  can  see  the  window  open  in  second  pic.  That  could  also  contribute  to  increased  temp  in  tank..

@apcmge:  The  wpg  is  about  3.2.  Yes  there  is  a  window  on  the  right  however  i  don't  feel  that  should  be  the  reason  for  the  temperature  not  dropping  at  all.  The  best  i  have  seen  a  drop  by  0.1  degree  nothing  better  that  too  after  3  hrs  with  lights  off  and  fans  running.

 Thanks,

 Hi  Ryel,
I  think  it's  a  common  problem  in  Mumbai.  In  my  case,  the  max  temp  with  all  lights  on  goes  to  about  31.  However,  I  keep  the  fan  on  the  whole  night  and  it  drops  to  around  29.  In  the  morning,  I  open  the  window  to  let  in  some  cool  breeze  and  can  get  the  temp  to  around  28.5.  But  I  can  never  get  it  below  28.  I  think  it's  because  of  the  ambient  temperature  in  Mumbai.

 Regards,

@rajivrao:  I  got  your  point  but  my  main  concern  is  if  the  temperature  is  increasing  with  the  fan  and  lights  on  during  the  day  and  going  to  30  now  for  me  i  wonder  how  high  will  it  go  during  summer.  Also  i  stay  facing  the  sea  so  get  plenty  of  cool  breeze  during  the  day  throughout  the  house  but  that  too  does  not  seem  to  help

 Thanks,

 Hi  Ryel,

The  temprature  of  my  tank  is  31  with  the  lights  on  and  drops  to  30  early  morning  when  the  lights  have  been  off  all  night.  However,  this  does  not  affect  the  plants  nor  bother  the  fish.

Yes  during  summer  it  goes  to  32/33  but  not  aproblem.

 Regards
 Thuds

which  shrimps?  RCS  and  other  hardier  ones  will  survive  and  do  well  in  temps  up  to  32.  CRS  and  their  kinds  wont.  I  live  in  kerala  and  the  ambien  temp  during  summers  is  34  and  my  room  has  sunlight  beating  down  at  it  from  10  am  till  sunset.

@Zakk:  I  don't  have  and  will  not  have  the  funds  for  it  (chiller).  Also  don't  have  place  for  it  and  unable  to  bear  the  working  cost.  When  i  had  a  closed  hood  members  recommended  having   a  open  hood  with  fan  hitting  the  water  at  a  angle.  Because  i  was  unable  to  do  anything  with  the  old  hood  i  went  for  a  ready  made  light  and  the  most  desirable  fan  at  an  angle  but  still  not  happy  due  to  the  temperature  not  dropping  even  with  fans  on  when  lights  are  off   Thumb Down

 Thanks,
