 Hello  Mayur,

 Welcome  to  IAH!
Good  to  find  that  you  are  exploring  into  underwater  planted  world     Smile

Quite  a  lot  of  things  you  have  posted  seem  jumbled  up  though...I  am  confused  whether  or  not  you  have  started  this  setup  Sad

First  Lights  -  Whats  the  total  output  of  lights(in  watts),  how  many  T5s  did  you  use?
Substrate  -   I  wonder  how  your  12"  high  tank  looks  after  almost  half  of  its  height  is  consumed  by  the  6"  substrate     Surprised

I  am  afraid  you  have  to  do  it  all  over  again,  if  this  tank  is  running.

Add  2"  of  laterite(or  soil),  then  top  it  with  a  max  of  1"  coarse  river  sand.  I  personally  go  for  no  more  than  half  an  inch,  maybe  thats  might  not  be  manageable  for  you,  thats  why  an  inch  is  good.

You  shouldnt  add  fish  unless  the  tank  is  completely  cycled(refer  this  word  if  you  are  new  to  it).
Secondly  goldfishes  are  one  of  the  worst  choices  for  a  planted  tank.

 Answers  to  your  questions..
 1.  There  are  quite  some  reasons  leaves  die(initially),  bad  quality  plants,  emersed  leaves,  old  leaves,  inediquete  lighting,  deficiency,  no  substrate  aeration(usually  caused  when  you  add  a  lot  of  compact  sand  over  soil)  injuries  from  transportation  and  possibly  fishes(goldfishes),  etc, etc.

2,3&4.Yes  it  can  be,  but  better  not  try  for  now  as  little  tanks  are  very  unstable  for  many  reasons  and  you  might  not  figure  out  proper  plants  for  it.  Learn  growing  various  plants  in  2  footer,  observe  their  growing  patterns  then  eventually  you  can  go  for  nanos.

Apart  from  this,  I  suggest  you  to  read  a  lot  on  this  subject  from  some  good  sourses.

hey  mayur  good  to  know  that  you  want  to  keep  a  planted  tank.
first  of  all  you  do  not  need  1/2  an  inch  of  laterite  just  a  a  thin  layer  will  do.
if  you  want  to  grow   HC  cuba  its  recommended  that  your  substrate  on  top  is  not  more  than  3  to  4  mm  in  thickness  as  this  will  help  the  plant  root  easily.
HC  requires  decent  amount  of  light  to  grow  at  least  3  to  3.5  watts  per  gallon  but  as  your  tank  is  small  you  will  need  more.
you  do  not  have  to  worry  of  dosing  your  tank  in  the  initial  stages  as  lot  of  nutrients  will  leach  out.  dosing  in  the  beginning  will  only  introduce  algae.  you  could  follow  EI  dosing  later  when  the  tank  is  set.
HC  needs  cool  water  to  grow  well  26-27  is  best  .
You  will  also  need  to  supplement  your  tank  with  co2.  DIY  will  do  for  the  start
and  as  for  cycling  your  tank,  you  could  google,  there  is  loads  of  stuff  on  that.

 all  the  best
 regards
 arjun  dogra

What  are  you  doin  with  the  yeast?....DIY  CO2?....if  that's  the  case,  you  need  sugar  too  :D

just  mentioning  "lights"  is  not  good  enough.....you  must  at  least  know  the  total  wattage  of  your  lights,  and  also  the  spectrum.

depending  on  your  plant  requirement,  if  it's  HC  you  really  goin  for,  then  you  need  about  3wpg  (watt  per  gallon)  and  above.....here's  how  to  calculate...

total  watt  of  lighting  /  US  gal  =  wpg

   Rock On

Well  you  can  plant  them  in  bunch,  or  spread  them  to  individual  plantlet  and  plant  them  into  the  substrate.  Using  a  tweezer  to  hold  the  plant  will  be  much  easy  to  do  the  planting  Very Happy
